Question about vegetarian diet????!

Question:

Question about vegetarian diet????

I am considering vegetarianism for many reasons including health. I was wondering if it is okay to eat cheese since you dont have to hurt cows to get it or eggs (to start, then maybe omit them)? Also can you lose weight by being a vegetarian (and not vegan) if you dont eat tons of carbs and junk??? Anyone with experience I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much!!

Answers:
Vegetarians eat foods that animals do not have to die to create. Cheese and eggs are "ok" by vegetarian standards. Others already mentioned rennet.

However, cows do indeed get hurt to make cheese, and chickens are hurt to make eggs. When cows can no longer produce enough milk for cheese etc. they are dragged to the slaughterhouse. Vegetarianism is a great and honorable step in the right direction, but we shouldn't pretend that dairy is good for cows.
:)

As for health, you will not want to eat too much cheese or eggs. Sometimes new vegetarians depend on these foods because they don't know how to fill the *void* of meat. Cheese and eggs are fatty.

Here is a link to the vegetarian food pyramid so you can get an idea of a healthy vegetarian diet.

As with any weight loss, the key is to eat a variety of foods and to eat fewer calories than you burn, so try to include some exercise into your week.

its okay to eat anything that comes from animals EXCEPT MEAT AND OTHER PRODUCTS THAT THE ANIMAL HAS TO BE KILLED TO GET, if you are a vegitarian. veganism is eating NOTHING that comes from animals.

if you don't rely on carbs too much, you'll be fine - I've been a vegetarian for many years that I've never felt healthier!!

beware of cheeses that contain rennet (unless it specifies that it's vegetarian rennet) because it's usually an enzyme from a cow's stomache that is used to make the cheese..

a general vegetarian can eat cheese, but a vegan can't

it is possible to loose weight-make sure you are careful to get all of your needed nutrients :)

It is ok to eat things from animals (except meat) but if the cheese has rennet don't eat it. Because rennet is a extract from the membranes of calves' stomach. If you go to this site it list many types of cheeses without rennet and the brand that makes them. http://cheese.joyousliving.com/cheeselis...

That is called ovo-lacto vegetarian.
That is a simple way to start vegetarianism, and many people do it. Vegans are completely animal free.

You can loose weight either way, it all has to do with what you eat, how much and what it does to YOUR body. Some people are not aware that they are sensitive to wheats, or nuts. So they go around bloated and retaining a lot of water, feeling sluggish.
Best is to eat healthy, whole foods, you prepare from scratch yourself. Nothing from a can or a box. Eat low-glicemic index foods. Proteins are actually good for weight loss. Stick with low or non-fat proteins. (soy, yoghurt, nuts)...

The worst vegetarian...eats cookies, chips, fries, donuts, etc....
Purchase or loan out several vegetarian cook books and guides to help you get started.

First of all, the dairy industry is most definitely cruel to animals. That being said, dairy is included in a vegetarian diet (not vegan). You can lose weight if you stay away from junk food. Same as an omnivore diet: burn more calories than take in. Its really easy to eat right this time of year. There are sooo many good fruits and veggies in season right now. Good luck!

There are many types of vegetarians out there. Some still eat fish, some just chicken, some just eggs, some milk and it's by-products. It is about what you want and how you feel about animal cruelty. Many cheeses contain rennett or "enzymes". Many of the enzymes are an animal by-product. I have email companies to ask questions and have been fairly successful in getting answers to my questions.

I think in any diet if you don't eat tons of carbs and junk you can lose weight.

Theres vegetarian and theres vegan. if youre a vegan you don't eat any animal bi-products, but you can be a veggie and still eat cheese and milk and fish.

well-planned vegetarian diets tend to be higher in fiber and protective phytonutrients and lower in saturated fat than the typical American diet. This healthier diet helps explain why vegetarians tend to have less cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and fewer weight problems than their meat-loving counterparts.

Although vegetarian diets can be very healthy, nutritional awareness is still important. Vegetarian teens, and their meat-eating friends, fall short on calcium, iron and zinc. Also, those who eliminate all animal-based foods and dairy products from their diets need to get a daily dose of vitamin B12. Fortified ready-to-eat cereals or a daily multivitamin supplement with B12 can help prevent pernicious anemia, a serious form of anemia that can lead to permanent nerve damage.

Um, well, I just wanna warn you know, [I'm not vegan yet] but the egg and dairy industry is just as bad as the meat, but anyway, yeah, I was about 150lbs, give or take, and by going veggie, I'm a happy 111lbs. Which is perfect for my age. I wish you the best of luck, for both you and the animals health.
