Nut free high protien?!
Nut free high protien?
I became a vegetarian last year because of moral reasons (factory farming, cruelty to animals) but I am alergic to nuts.
Because of this I sometimes have a hard time finding things with good protein. So I have a few questions
1) what are some good foods I can get (besides eating beans like 3 times a day) that are high in protein and nut free.
2) Does anybody know the amount of protien you're supposed to get everyday
3) Are those bars that say "high in protein" bad for you?
Answers:
1) I will c/p a reply I had to another similiar question asked earlier:
Soy protein shakes are available also...
could eat vegetarian baked beans...chili...some nice tofu.. some brown rice...lentils have tons of protein...
Theres also pea protein available, or rice protein you could make mixes out of to drink.
Minus the mucus enriched egg, all the cholesterol...and no chickens need to be harmed or domesticated with the above solutions :)
spinach seems to have more protein to calorie ratio then most all foods...so if you want to load up on lots of good things including the protein..wilt some spinach. I like it with balsamic vinegar and some tomatoes. It's also good with vegan cheddar melted over it.
2) About 1/3 of your body weight in grams. If you weighed 180 lbs roughly 60grams of protein as an example.
1/2 of your body weight in grams if your an active labor worker or athlete, or more depending on needs.
equal amount to your body weight in grams if your a weight trainer or more depending on needs/results.
3)Not entirely, just make sure your getting enough fiber and water in your day while you eat them. If you'd like maybe eat a bowl of oatmeal in the morning with one on the side, then wash it all down with a glass of juice, water or soymilk.
If I didn't answer anything or you have more questions feel free to IM/E-mail me :)

A lot of what we think we know about protein is a complete myth. There are *very* few cases of protein deficiency outside of starving, wholly impoverished conditions. So that should help ease some of your fears. Most people get 2-3 times their needed protein, which results in many health problems later in life.

Beans, especially soybeans are great sources of protein. There are so many fun recipes like

And I’m not sure how you feel about processed foods, but perhaps bringing in some fake meats to the house will help out.
#3 Probably better than a candy bar
:)
i'm not sure about the last two questions, but i would suggest quinoa. it's actually a more of a grain but it has a high protein value and it's very versatile in ways that it can be cooked.

#3 most High Protien Bars use Soy as there base, if that works for you they are good. Besure & read the labels they can have dairy & nuts.
1. Beans and whole grains are great sources. Almost everything else has protein in it as well.
2. The amount depends on the person but you do not need as much as you think you do.
