Is it true that plant-based foods contain no cholesterol?!
Is it true that plant-based foods contain no cholesterol?
I recently read that one way to verify if a product is vegan is to check the cholesterol - if there is any at all, then it can't be vegan, because vegan foods (ie. plant-based foods) never contain any cholesterol.
Is this true? and if it isn't, what plant-based/vegan foods do contain cholesterol?
Answers:
Yes its true.Cholesterol, a type of lipid, is found in foods from animal sources. This means that eggs, meats, and whole-fat dairy products (including milk, cheese, and ice cream) are loaded with cholesterol - and vegetables, fruits, and grains contain none. http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/question/...
Palm oil does not contain cholesterol, but does contain saturated fat, that is sometimes thought to raise cholesterol levels in those who eat it.
''Palm oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm Elaeis guineensis. It is a vegetable oil, not an animal or dairy product, and therefore does not contain cholesterol.''

No that isn't true. Palm kernel oil has cholesterol in it and is used in many processed foods. The only way you can tell for sure if a product is vegan is to read the ingredient list.
Cholesterol is made in the liver. Only things with a liver can make it. You can probably raise your cholesterol as a vegan from eating trans fats (hydrogenated oils, i.e. Crisco). Plant foods themselves don't have cholesterol.
It's true. Palm oil doesn't have cholesterol--it has saturated fat which the liver turns into cholesterol. So, yes, a strictly vegan diet is devoid of dietary cholesterol (for which the body has no requirement), but not necessarily of saturated fat. When checking products, keep in mind that some products can have animal products, but still be fee of cholesterol. But, yes, if it does have any, it definitely isn't vegan!
Well, Veganism dont alow to use unnatural things but nature has all balanced. If you will going with nature then everything become easy, healhy and i think positive.
Vegitations give us good cholesterol not bad. I think you have know that Cholestrol are two types. So if you have sure that something is vegan then ask to the experts and read the ingrdeants crefully.
Some of the local food maker not write the real truth because they know that veggi people are growing faster then the hiding the bad things to be know. Well use big company's things and be honest to take recipt.
Ok i think now you have a answer of your Question!
So happy? then Go vegan and go happy!
Have a nice day!
RAW unprocessed plant foods do not have cholesterol.
Dr Ornish's diet of plant based foods allowed those who followed it renewed health from Heart problems related to diet.
Being a former chef from Canada, the issues is not in the vegetables themselves but how they are processed.
True, palm oil is high in saturated fats, but is used mainly in Asian, Africa and South American cooking, it is reddy-orange and is used as a flavouring along as a cooking agent, and most recently the coconut oil fad has arisen, in regards to the comment about Crisco, Proctor and Gamble the makers of the veg shortening is now producing a lower saturated fat version and is no longer going to hydrogenate it so to lower the fatty acids that cause it to be a high end saturated fat product.
Butter is a saturated fat and has a trace of cholestrol, and yes animal fats are high in that element, that is why I only eat veggie burgers now.
