Is it true tht mars, snickers.maltesers will remain suitable for vegetarians?
Answers:
Yes! These products were and still are vegetarian but of course not vegan.
The rennet that was suggested to be added is a tiny ingredient of the products but it is sourced from calf stomach and hence not veggie.
The bosses at Mars have said they will not be using this enzyme due to the public outcry and pressure from the Vegetarian Society.

Yes they are going back to the original recipe
yes i believe so.mars had to back down through huge protest
yes! the companies that make these types of chocolate assumed that by adding ingredients which were not suitable for vegetarians, they would not lose a lot of profit but they then found out that there were a heck of a lot more vegetarians in the world than they thought! So they are still suitable for veggies!! xo
yes, they have had their two penn'oth of free publicity.
now they are going to stay veggie
possibly. masterfoods have said they have abandoned thier plans to source rennet from dead cows.
however, they are still stuffed with other ingedients that they don't identify the source of.
And because they don't write "suitable for vegetarians" on them they reserve the right to change without telling us.
remember, they only admitted this once someone found out and the veggie society got on thier backs.
shame on masterfoods, they showed utter contempt for vegetarians throughout the whole affair.
Yes because Mars have underestimated the impact to their business from the drop in sales... How stupid did anyone get fired?
They silently switched several months ago, but when word got around they switched back.
They interviewed someone on Radio 2 from the makers of Mars etc.
yes Mars has backed down due to public pressure
I for one will not be eating any of their chocolate again....dirty scoundrels.
i didn't trust them before & i certainly don't trust them now!
stick to eating plain fair-trade chocolate,
it goes further than slimy milk-choc & at least you know it's not got anything in there, that shouldn't.
Sort of.
They have reversed their decision to use animal rennet in their chocolate. However they haven't said exactly when they would go back to using vegetarian rennet so your best to stay clear till they do.
Also I am not sure their chocolate ever was vegetarian.Cadbury's and several other brands say 'suitable for vegetarians' on their chcocolate wrappers.Masterfoods never said that which makes you wonder what else is in their chocolate.
Just the fact with all that is going on with Mars right now, why would you even want to purchase their products? If you use their products, you are not a vegetarian.
No, they contain milk, which is an animal product.
So they say. Sounds like a battle won to me!
Makes you wonder what the food manufactures will do for a little profit doesn't it.
all the chocs you asked about will remain vegan friendly so munch away
Yes. They discovered that depriving vegetarians of chocolate wasn't a sensible business move.
I'm seriously relieved by this. I worked out the other week that I spend at least £75 a year on Maltesers.
I don't know, and I don't care. When they decided to make the change they lost my trust and my business. I started buying fair trade chocolate instead which I have discovered is delicious and has the "suitable for vegetarians" logo on it.
So they might well be suitable now, but if they were willing to throw away my custom once they won't be getting it back.
Yes but not yet, check the sell by dates against the info on the masterfoods website.
Personally as the company has shown a complete disregard for veggies by their actions I will be giving them a miss from now on. Think of the calories i'll save!!
