If you wear leather shoes, you are just as bad as the criminal who murdered the cow. I see no difference.

LALA, the excuse about some people having allergies with veggie shoes is a sickening excuse. How would you feel if someone made a pair of shoes out of one of your family members?

Yes, lets all stop wearing leather shoes because the veggies can't handle it.

Then we can see how long it takes for cows to become extinct.

For goodness sake - get a grip - I can prove to you that plants react quite distressingly when picked or cut so who is more heartless ?

Because Veggie option shoes suck that's why. Don't try and opress me.

It's dignified.

Just because some people don't believe in it doesn't mean they're going to stop making leather products..I buy it if it looks good..

Leather is a by-product of animals which would already be slaughtered for their meat, they are not killed for their skin only.

Eco friendly, bio degradable.

the animal is dead long before i decide to purchase any shoes, and plus they last longer, and are higher quality, sorry to offend u , iam sure you are asking to get truthful results, actually that was my first coem to mind answer, actually, i did not even think about the animal or even consider it when i wa sbuying my boots fr aldo

I dont really think about it. I buy shoes that look good. Sorry, will try to look for non leather shoes the next time Im looking :)

Unfortunately, I have to wear a special non-slip shoe for work, and I haven't been able to find any *affordable* non-leather ones. I'm wearing the ones I have until they wear out (bought them before I turned vegan) and then I'm going to search really hard for a pair of shoes approved by my workplace.

coz it's more reliable dan the other shoes it's tough
hard for use

cuz there gay cowboys

I suppose it stems from back when leather was the footwear of choice for early humans. Before rope-making or weaving was the big thing. Leather has stood the test of time as the first choice for not only durability but podiatric health, as plastic shoes just don't breathe as well as leather.

I guess it goes back to that old joke "It's easier to protest the wearing of fur than leather because it's easier to harrass rich white women than it is to harrass gangs of bikers".

In all seriousness, the majority of people around the world will still eat meat, heartless or not. Would you rather people eat meat and just let the carcass and skin be left to rot and take up space in landfills? Or would you rather it go to good use, like putting shoes on poor people's feet?

It's a fashion thing I am afraid.

Thinking out of the box though - have you ever considered how un eco-friendly plastic and the manufacture of such materials is?

Also some people have allergies and can't wear man made fibres.

Because they look fabulous and stretch just enough to fit your feet perfectly! Some people eat them, I prefer wear them! What else should we do with them...set them free?

Because leather is a durable material that has been traditionally easy to care for. It is also possible to style leather into countless colors and fashions.

Because leather allows your feet to "breathe". Plastic and other man made shoes mke your feet sweat and they become so smelly that you cant even stay in the same room as a pair that have just been taken off of hot feet!!!! Anyway surely if cows, pigs etc are still being killed to eat what would you do with their skins otherwise? I do eat meat but am not particularly fond of it and can do without it.

You are extremely narrow minded and probably very young
Get a life and off your soap box.

Since I have seen your questions I am starting to feel very sorry for you.

A Question? to you if I may is your house completely built with no animals products involved in the construction WHAT SO EVER

if you ask that question then you are as dumb as a cow. i see no difference either! How can people be so brainless.

leather is a by product
leather shoes are better for your feet
im a vegetarian and i wear leather shoes
you can only go so far with the veggie trip
calm down!
are you a vegan> do you drink milk ? thats worse as they take the calf away from its mother and feed it manually before slaughter
we could go on forever about ethical subjects!

People have been making and wearing leather shoes for thousands of years. Why ? Could it be because it's the best material for the purpose ? This is not the answer you want, but it is the truth.

So what you are saying is let the hide rot? People are going to eat meat, if other parts of the animal can be used for useful items it should be used. I am an animal lover and a part of nature myself. I am also a Native American that believes no part of an animal killed for food should be wasted. Humans are omnivores just like bears. But unlike bears we have the use of tools to overcome hardships. Do you think fur used to keep an Eskimo baby warm is cruel? I agree there is no use for fur in the lower climates and fashion fur is stupid. But to say the veggie shoes are better and less cruel to animals is redundant. Those veggie shoes you are so keen on are produced by petroleum products whose manufacture cause pollution to our ecosystem thus killing more critters then the the shoes made from a cow that has been killed for food. Those shoes also do not biodegrade for thousands of years.

Cows are used to make bone china, heparin (an anti-coagulant) and numerous other life-saving pharmaceuticals, anti-biotics and acne medication and chondriotin sulphate and cough drops, brake fluid, lubricant for jet engines, synthetic motor oils, anti-freeze mixtures, car polish, the foam in fire extinguishers, non-dairy creamers are made from cows blood, cosmetics, hair conditioner, chewing gum, food packaging, inks, the adhesive used to make plywood and some 80,000 other uses that will hardly be considered "criminal". Vegetarian diets are healthy. But, unfortunately, many people with mental problems are wearing "diet" like a cloak of purity and they tend to get quite vicious about forcing their concept of "purity" in diet onto others. That's also called fascism. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the pursuit of one's own good health.

Freedom of choice for many hundreds of years x

I'm sorry but get off your high horse and stop judging others for the decisions they make. Who are you to judge people by the shoes they wear? People have been killing animals for their skin and meat since the dawn of time. It's called the food chain. It's a part of nature and there is nowt as cruel as nature I'm afraid. Next you'll be saying that it's cruel the way tigers and lions kill for their food. It's just how nature is so just deal with it and take your tofu munching elsewhere. Normally I couldn't give a rats @rse if people don't want to eat meat, just means there's more for me but I expect the same 'live and let live' courtesy to be extended back to me. You may not agree with the choices some people make with their lifestyles but how dare you judge them. It's an individual choice whether you agree with those choices or not is your prerogative, but also it's none of your business. Plus, what sort of a dumb question is "how would you like it if some-one made a pair of shoes out of one of your relatives?" Well, do you really think that anyone is going to say "yeah, it would be awesome"? My god, get over yourself and stop being so self righteous.

I have been veggie for over twenty years but still unfortunately have to wear leather shoes for formal dress at work. At home and out and about I will never wear them. The reason for this is I have yet to find a cost effective shop that sells formal business shoes of a non-leather nature.

Please help, I agree wearing leather is NOT eating meat but it does make the animal industry more profitable. If cows were only used for meat then they would not be so many slaughtered because its meat would become far more expensive and hence less people would be buying it.

It's called freedom of choice.

Heartless people are those who do not allow others a choice.

Presumably you have the freedom to choose what you eat and wear so why not allow others the same freedom.

Plastic shoes are uncomfortable, they don't 'breathe' or 'give' and they make your feet sweat and smell.

Leather is natural and a lot of people prefer natural products.

If you don't want to wear leather than don't. But no one is going to change their lifestyle because you don't like it.

The Native Americans of this country also killed for food. They wore the fur and used it for housing. They used the bones as utensils and ate all the other parts. Would you consider them to be heartless? I wouldn't. They actually RESPECTED the animals and the land they dwelt upon together. They also respected the plants and vegetables that you are so proud to shove down your gullet one after another, they believed that these plants had a spirit.

What we need to do is respect the way life is, rather than try to be picky about it. A butterfly flaps its wings and somewhere a hurricane destroys an entire third-world country. Are we to blame the butterfly for their problems? No, we don't. We blame God, we blame Man for global warming, we blame them for being sinners. We do not track down the butterfly who LIVED, and say "You're destroying the world! Stop flying around so much!"

Now, if you don't wanna eat meat or whatever, that's fine by me. I can respect anyone who can live on a diet that lacks proper nutrition, that will need to take vitamin and protein and iron supplements when they're 40 because they cannot digest meat proteins anymore. I can respect someone who puts themselves through so many health problems willingly for the sake of other creatures. (Don't believe me? Do some research. Go to Connecticut, and go talk to one of the child psychology professors at Naugatuck Valley Community College. She'll tell you all about what not eating meat has done to her health and immune system.)

But I can NOT respect those who do not respect others who choose to be part of the food chain that has existed since the dinosaurs. And I will NOT ever respect the person who tells me I am wrong for using the incisors and canines that God gave me to eat meat with. Live and let live, I say... and if you can't do that, well... I don't know what else to tell ya.

Its more comfortable and stronger therefore it is better than other brands.

Leather, much like meat, is one of the finer things in life! It not only makes fine shoes but also looks good on sofas and in car interiors alike! I proudly have my whole car re-trimmed in leather and recline on one of my 2 leather sofaas on a daily basis, you really dont know what ur missing!

1 - you have no respect for the natural life cycle of animals

2 - cows are not people

3 - you are brainwashed and you don't even know it, how sad.
