What do you vegetarians think?!

Question:

What do you vegetarians think?

I believe that if you go and hunt your own food, then make use of it all by eating or storing to eat it later, it is ok to kill animals. i just think the process the animals and the meat endure is horrifying. ive been a vege for about 7 years and i wish i could bring myself to catch and eat food, the the problem is i dont eat meat cuz i think it tastes gross!!

do you agree that its okay for a man to hunt for his own food, as opposed to buying it at a store?

Answers:
No, it is still murder. There are no excuses that can ever justify murder. Your body is not designed to eat meat any way; you intestinal track is too long and ridgy to digest meat, so even if you kill an animal, the effects of eating it will not be beneficial. Even hunters will tell you that if you shoot a deer that is scared or fleeing, the meat will become tangy and sharp because of the endorphins being released into the muscle. This shows the animal does have emotion and feelings. The act of killing the animal, whether I use all of the animal or not, is wrong and unnecessary murder.

That hardly makes sense.

About salad dressing 90% of the time.

It makes sense. People have the misconception that you will grow frail and weak, but quite the opposite is true. Imagine our close cousin, the powerful gorilla with all of his might. Does he eat cooked food? Does he eat meat? No. Yet he is one of the strongest animals on earth. The largest dinosaurs were herbivores. If your study how our teeth are formed, we do not have canines for ripping and tearing meat - we have grinding teeth for chewing nuts and leaves....

no no and no u cant just go round an kill things just because you want 2 eat go an have a carrot the stress you put the animal through whilst chasing it is the same stress that it is put through wen it is being slaughtered for people to eat it

Only if it's for survival. Hunting for sport is pretty sick.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I agree with you. My husband and I raise livestock and poultry on our farm for our own consumption. In fact, our sow hog had nine piglets yesterday. We also hunt and fish. The animals have huge pastures and pens, they always have food and water, and we can even pet most of them. They seem to be very content and they are not scared of us in the least. When the time comes to slaughter them, you just have to look at it like picking a tomato from a vine. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as you treat them as humanely as possible, and when you kill them, you do it as quickly and as mercifully as you can. It's not really as horrific as you might think, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. It doesn't diminish my taste for it at all, instead it gives me a sense of satisfaction to be self-sufficient. It's not about cruelty, it's about survival. On the other hand, I think it is despicable to kill an animal, such as a deer, just to mount its head as a trophy.

I actually do agree. I think if people had to actually be involved in the process of hunting (or even raising one yourself, I mean, can you imagine HUNTING a cow? they're not exactly a "natural species) and slaughtering an animal they may be less inclined to eat meat unless they REALLY felt they needed it (like, Inuits may still partake). I also think there would be less waste...less waste of the animal that was killed and less waste effect on the environment from factory farms. It would also even be healthier for the person eating the animal. Animals that have a natural diet are better for you than ones fed crap at a factory farm. But, everyone just buys their meat in lovely little packages and doesn't care what happened before it got to the store.

I wholeheartedly agree that it's okay to catch and kill your own food, because that is both less cruel (no slaughterhouse, the animal spends its whole life in the wild) and shows that you know what you're consuming and appreciate it more. However, just because you can do something doesn't meant that you must- why eat meat and kill an animal to do so if you don't even like it?

Man can live perfectly fine on a veg diet,so no I don't agree with it.

Without going to far off subject...

Farming plants and animals is what has allowed the human race to outgrow the hunting/gathering limitations imposed upon it and allowed our population to grow uncontrollably.

This is not a good thing.

However, if we were all suddenly forced to return to hunting and gathering our own food we would starve - 50 to 75% of the world population would probably die off. Imagine the entire population of New York City heading off into the surrounding area to hunt and gather enough food to last them just a week!

So, if you really think about it (really think about it) the people responsible for more efficient (aka less humane) factory farming are the couples who have 2 or more children. Overpopulation is the reason factory farming is necessary. And to a lesser extent - urban sprawl. Everyone wants a house on a few acres (of lawn) and none of them generate their own food. Where I live farms are being bought up (cheap) and turned into McMansions with big - I mean BIG - yards.

I think that's a really interesting view. I would say it was better than getting it from a store, because you just don't know what's been going on behind closed doors. I mean, it's obviously not for me because I'm a vegetarian, but everyone makes there own choices.
