Vegans, pescatarians, lacto-ovo pescatarians.....?!
Vegans, pescatarians, lacto-ovo pescatarians.....?
I'm trying my hardest to eat healthy....right now i think i'm a lacto-ovo pescatarian....yes i know that true vegans believe that pescatarians and lacto-ovo pescatarians aren't true vegetarians....but i do i get there? I actually came a long way because i was a true carnavore once, I ate steak and chicken everywhere that i went. but now i just eat fish, milk (with my chocolate chip cookies, but i'm starting to substitute regular cows milk with soy milk), fruits and salads because i really don't like vegetables although i'm trying to. So my question is, how do i cut fish out of my diet, what can i do to feel full after i eat fruits, what recipes are there for vegetables because so far i've just been eating ceasar salads, and is parmesan cheese vegetarian, and if it's not then what do i substitute it with. Also, for the true animals lovers, i'm not trying to be a vegan to save the animals, because they are just animals, they reproduce, they die. I just want a healthier lifestyle.

thats great that you are trying to adapt to a vegetarian lifestyle! :). i'd say just stop having fish around the house because then you wont want it, but i know that that may not work and you could end up going backwards. slowly cut the fish from your diet. maybe limit it to once a week until you feel your ready to give it up completely.
i read somewhere that if you ate a hand full of nuts before eating a snack or meal, it will help keep you fuller longer because fat takes longer to burn than carbs or protein. i've tried this and find that if you eat the nuts slow enough to actually enjoy each one and then eat the fruit, it does help.
for veggies, try tossing them in olive oil and seasoning them with salt and pepper, then grilling them. i always make veggies this way. they taste great!
cheese can be vegetarian if it is not used with animal rennet. call a manufacture and ask what type of rennet is used.
oh, and if you arent a huge fan of soy milk (since it can cause breast cancer from the large amounts of estrogen found in it) i'd suggest almond breeze. the chocolate taste exactly like conventional chocolate milk and is a good thing for a sweet tooth.
Eating nuts and peanut butter will help. The also provide protein for good muscle development.
none of those are particularly healthy. Humans evolved as omnivores, meat is a natural part of our diet. eating lean meats like fish and poultry along with veggies and starches is what you need. You can only get some of the nutrients from meat through other foods, not all.
Soy is bad for you. Worry less about meat and more about oils added to our food Canola Oil Aka Rapeseed oil AKA LEER oil.
Listen to your body. If it's telling you to eat fish, it probably needs something from that fish (protein, oil, etc.) Fish is very healthful.
If you going to do something atleast spell it correctly, the word is:
Pescetarianism
The cheese on ceasar salad is vegetarian although the dressing has anchovies in it. I would just suggest to substitute things. For example, when I go to a fast food place I will either use beans instead of meat at Taco Bell or I will order a burger without the meat. They seem to be filling and there isn't any meat. Try something like adding morning star farms into your meal. These types of food usually have a nice variety. As for the fish, I am not too sure because I never really ate fish, but if you look at health food stores they usually have something to replace it with. To feel full after eating fruit, just eat enough. Your body will typically use up what fruit you ate so if you eat enough through-out the day you should feel full.
Honestly, it's best for your body to have a little bit of everything from the food pyramids(even some sweets now and then) but dont cut out meat protein completely because your body needs those proteins and carbs. Also foods that contain a lot of fiber fill you up the most. Water too can fill you up. A lot of the time thirst is mistaken for hunger, so instead of sipping on some water you end up eating a bunch of food. If you want a professional opinion, go see your doctor, that's what they are there for, or see a nutrition specialist, they specialize in this kinda stuff. And for the cheese thing, cheese is made of milk(and other stuff of course) but yeah its a dairy product... The vegetable recipes.. just buy some lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, red onions, red cabbage(i dont care for it, but maybe you will),sliced carrots, and even some peppercini can go in a salad. Pick and choose what you have a taste for and toss it in! You don't have to be a vegan or those other things to live a healthier lifestyle. In fact you might be jeopardizing your health if you are vegan or whatever(see doctor to see why I say that). If you want to have a healthier lifestyle: eat sensible proportions of food and drink, eat at least five servings of fruits and veggies everyday, (try) to drink 8 cups of water everyday and live your life!(also, if you are a drinker, dont drink too much,{alcohol adds major calories too} and damages the lining of your stomach and what not.)
Congrats on your mission to be healthy! Any progress is great as long as you feel healthier and are getting all of your vitamins. Don't worry about being "a pure vegan" right off the bat. Take your journey at your own pace.
A great book: "Becoming Vegan" by Davis and Melina
Sometimes veggies can be an acquired taste but there are many great cook books and web sites to help you along. Great website with lots of recipes: www.VegWeb.com
Veggies are VERY important, so try lots of recipes and eat them up. Don't be a junk food vegetarian.
Try an apple with some almond butter for a fulfilling snack!
A lot of good suggestions above me, one more thing I'd add, is if you miss that fishy taste (which I admit, even as a vegan, I certainly do) - eat some seaweed or other sea vegetables (Note that sea cucumber is an animal though, the name is confusing.)
Fresh seaweed tastes JUST like fish, because they both get that taste from the seawater itself. It can be hard to find, but check Asian markets and once you have a good source, eat some seaweed salad for that fishy taste.
A lacto-ovo pescetarian is NO type of vegetarian much less a true one. Parmesan cheese is usually made with animal rennet so therefore not vegetarian friendly. Natural food markets carry Parmesan that is rennet free though.
substitute fish with veggie burgers and tofu. they taste good
Lacto ovo pescatarian?!?! You're just a meat eater that excludes red meat and chicken from your diet!
