Meat-eater burns baby in microwave. Coincidence?!

Question:

Meat-eater burns baby in microwave. Coincidence?

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/fron...

So, is there a corolation? Or does everyone agree that my "headline" sounds ridiculous?

It is. I took liberty with this story to create a suggestion to the reader that diet had something to do with it. This is in response to a similar question posted here - a story of vegan parents who starved their baby. Both these crimes had nothing to do with the way they ate.

But the NY Times printed an Op/Ed article that used a baby's death to unjustly trash a diet that excludes animal products. The author probably is recieving $$$ from the animal industry.

But there a lot of people who do this non-professionally - like on this site. It is wrong it lump a lot of people together that have something in common, and then assume things without having the facts straight. It's called prejudice.

Edit. Here's the "Vegan" article. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/21/opinio...

P.S. My question has nothing to do with whether veganism for babies is OK.(though it is). A baby can be killed on any diet if it excludes almost everything.
Now that I say that, I realize: Soy milk and apple juice isn't reall a vegan diet - NO VEGETABLES...LOL. And it's FAR from typical.

VERY WELL SAID. I couldn't have said it better.

Thank you for posting this.

Edit: I am also glad to see that the meat-eaters are quiet now (usually they they all have to post some very clever responses about how weak and deficient vegans are, or what meaty dinner they are just about to have, or that God has placed animals on Earth so that humans can exploit and torture them as much as they want).
It seems this is the right way to deal with them - so more postings like this one, please ;-)

Is this the Op/Ed you were talking about "Death by Veganism"?
I posted the link to the NY Times Op/Ed so your posting will not be so one-sided. I don't think it's necessarily blaming veganism as the cause of death. As you can see the parents of the dead infant only fed him soy milk and apple juice. I think the article tells of one person decision not to remain vegan while pregnant and nursing and reminding other vegans of the dangers associated with feeding an infant a vegan diet. Dangers which can be avoided by breastfeeding and taking the righ supplements.

It is also wrong to take a side and trash the other without presenting the facts of BOTH sides

Blackbyrus, I'm not disagreeing with you, but since his post was about prejudice against a group of people with certain beliefs I would like to see the article he was referring to so I could read and form my own opionion rather than relying on a one-sided posting. After all what is prejudice? An unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason. I am not "anti-vegan" or "pro meateater". I really just want the facts. I only want to learn.

Agreed. The article(s) about the "vegan" parents got old fast. Look at the comments on the article though - some people are already blaming the incident on the couple's Christianity. Crazy people do crazy things, and then blame it on their beliefs (which are usually harmless and have little to do with the incident itself) and the media and public are all too quick to jump on that. It's called personal responsibility, and we should place the blame on the individuals instead of blaming video games, veganism, wearing black, etc... so ridiculous.

Edit: kgee, I saw many headlines like "Baby dies on vegan diet" as if soymilk and juice is what vegans feed their babies, or "Vegans murder baby". In the article above, note they wrote "Mom blames Satan" not "Christians microwave baby". And many people certainly are blaming veganism itself... at least the prosecutor thankfully noted that it was murder by extreme neglect, not veganism, that was at fault here.

Edit: Okay, kgee, cool... I was just throwing out my POV, as it did seem like many of those articles were pretty biased, esp. the headlines. I agree with you it would be helpful for the asker to put links to the specific articles they are talking about so newcomers know the whole story! Thanks for reminding me, just because I hear about it often, doesn't mean everyone has heard about it even once - I should remember that. :)

How a person eats does not make him or her a killer. These people had a mental disorder and needed help badly.First problem is they should have never had a child. My christian friends are vegetarian and have a grown up family. So we can't let the Satan or God issue cloud the issue. My guess is these people were schizophrenic. My brother is and it sounds familiar.

I think it was more because he was a delusional christian nutcase.

I thank you for posting this story. This is an absolutely tragedy completely. And, I'm NOT glad that it happened, but with everyone posting the story of Crown Shakurr, the baby that died from murderous parents, people have been downing the vegan lifestlyle. I'm glad that it was posted, to show that even MEAT-EATERS, are horrid people who do bad things to their children.
It's got nothing to do with the diet, no one seems to understand that though. It has EVERYTHING to do with the unequipped parents, that decide to murder their own flesh and blood. It is horrid, and it's unfortunate that people around every part of the world kill their children.

Meat eater wins Nobel Prize... Coincidence?

I totally agree with you
