Is sweetened soymilk okay to drink?!

Question:

Is sweetened soymilk okay to drink?

I was wondering if sweetened soymilk is as healthy for you as normal milk. My friend is convinced that the added sugars (cane juice?) are not good for you. I typically drink vanilla soymilk, but is it not healthy?

Answers:
It's not the worst thing you could drink, but it's far from being the best thing you could drink, too. Take a look at the box and see how much sugar, sodium, and unpronouncable chemicals there are.

My suggestion is that if you don't know *exactly* what the stuff on the carton is, don't eat it.

Chances are that sweetened soymilk has more sugar than you need, and you'd be better off drinking juice or water.

Fortunately, where I live we can readily and easily get pure soya milk without anything else added. Just 100% pure soya milk and all it's goodness.

Commercial soya milk is full of cane sugar and that alone is unhealthy. Actually the best is to make your own soya milk. I make my own soya milk and it's so delicious. It's easy and you get all the goodness without adding anything else. You can sweeten it with a bit of honey if you want.

You can choose to buy soya milk that states 'reduced sugar'.

its fine

It still has less sugar than cows milk by a lot, and less saturated fat and no cholesterol. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're diabetic or something.

Soy milk is by far the better choice than cow's milk. The sugar used to sweeten soy milk is not a huge quantity. However, the combination of sugar & cow's milk is very unhealthy & causes many health problems which plague our western society. So, no, sweetened soy milk is definitely preferable to even unsweetened cow's milk, on any score. Phytoestragen in soy products counteracts the effects of menopause. Soy has too many health benefits to list here, while dairy products cause too many health problems to list here. You would be very well informed if you can get hold of the book, The China Study by Dr T Colin Campbell, who, after 40 years of scientific research into this field, proves beyond doubt the many positive benefits of soy as opposed to the dangers of dairy products.
