Answers:
It shouldn't, if it says its vegan then animals should not of been involved in any process of making the food!
Way back in the 1970's I worked with sugar beets they used some pretty horrible chemicals to preserve them so they'd get a higher price having the beets processed later. The chemical would soften the rubber on the soles of our boots. The pile of beets was quite large that we'd built with ventilation tunnels made from barrels with vent holes and fans and a tent over the top. These were all measures taken to prevent the beets from rotting. I do not know enough about sugar cane to speak about how that sugar is processed but I would avoid beet sugar and seek out organic, turbindo and perhaps sugar alternatives such as organic molasses.
If it says it is vegan then it should be... And it should say which for of sugar it is......... but then you have to think about the morality of the company there are alot of crooked people in this going down the pooper of a world.
sorry, I gave up when i saw the word vegan
If you buy something that is labeled vegan it IS vegan. Its illegal to label something vegan if it's not so yea if it's labeled vegan go ahead and enjoy it!!!! yummy lol
Up to about 3 years ago this was always the case. Not just animal bones but oyster shells were commonly used.
Now, some of the big sugar refiners do use veggie alternatives for thier stock sugars but the stuff going to processed foods ( like chips/frys) is often still refined using animals.
If it doesn't say veggie on the packet, then veggies need to leave it alone. Same is true of vegans.
An example. Sainsburys baby tinned carrots have "carrots, water, salt" as the ingredients list. Veggie ? No way, the carrots are washed in a sugar solution that is refined using dead cows.
Again, if its not veggie on the label, you cannot say one way or another what products are used in the processing, so veggies and vegans have to keep clear.
