What's a good alternative to peanut butter?
everytime i eat peanut butter, my skin breaks out in eczema (itching and redness). the problem is, i love peanut butter and as a vegetarian it's one of my staples. are there any other nut butters that would taste like peanut butter?
Answers:
I am really fond of sunflower seed butter. Yum
:)
Go to a local health food store or food co-op, or even specialty or organic sections in regular grocery stores; they have tons of options on various nuts and seeds. But check the labels to make sure the butter wasn't made on the same equipment as peanut butter because the oils could get in your butter.

Other nut butters are hard to find in the stores; you might have to make them yourself. I personally love hazelnut butter, which mixed with cocoa and milk to make Nutella. A health food store would have a better variety of different nut spreads than the average grocery store, so try to find walnut butter - it's great, too.
Have you been tested for nut allergies? You should be careful in trying new foods if you're not sure.
I am allergic to peanuts, and make homemade almond and cashew butter. You can also buy them, and sunflower butter at most health food stores, but they are ridiculously expensive-about 14 bucks a jar! I buy nuts on sale and make my own. You are probably developing an allergy to them, so I would avoid them at all costs. Peanut allergy is one of the most severe, and you can have an anaphalactic reaction in time, if you keep eating them. Allergy symptoms may worsen over time, or they can just hit you bang on suddenly. Good luck. Also, be sure to read labels so you can avoid foods that were processed on the same line as peanuts, or snacks that are cooked in peanut oil.
Peanut butter isn't the only kind of nutbutter you can spread on your whole-wheat bread. Try some variety.
Almond butter is more nutrient-dense than peanut butter. It contains half the amount of saturated fat, less salt (usually), and eight times as much calcium. Peanut butter, however, contains twice as much protein and four times as much niacin (20 percent of the DV).
Cashew butter is less nutritious than both almond and peanut butter. It contains less protein, fiber, and niacin than peanut butter, but it still makes a tasty piece of toast.
Soy butter is a healthy alternative for those allergic to other nutbutters, is lower in total and saturated fats than peanut butter, but usually has added sweeteners to make it palatable.
Sesame seed butter (called "tahini") is a favorite of Middle Eastern cuisine. It can be mixed with ground chickpeas to make hummus or combined with eggplant and spices to make baba ghanoush.
Have you ever tried soy butter you can find it at walmart with the peanut butter.
not like peanut butter but if you make your own they can be even more delicious. cashew butter, delish, roast the nuts, grind in a food processor, add small amount of oil, and blend to desired consistency
soy butter or at the health food store they have machines that can crush any nuts into a butter.
There a lots of vegetarian nuts. In fact I think all vegetarians are nuts.
Hemp Nut Butter...no, I'm not kidding. It's delicious!
you should be able to find it or special order it from any health food store.
My sister-in-law and her kids are fans of soy-nut butter. In fact, when the dad tries to make peanutbutter sandwiches for the kids, they say yuck, this is peanut butter. There are other nutbutters out there. Almond butter is expensive, but tasty. Keep nut butters in the fridge. It not only keeps them from going rancid, but it makes it easier to stir the natural oils in and keep it from separating. You probably eat regular commercial peanutbutter right now and that contains hydrogenated oil, not a nice thing. It will take some getting used to when you switch to all natural stuff.
Peanut butter has it's own unique flavour. But there are plenty of other nut butters, each with their own flavour (after all, different types of nuts have different flavours) that are readily available in any natural food store. By the small jars of them, for now, until you can figure out which one you prefer. I'd actually suggest avoiding soy nut butter entirely. There is no such thing as a soy nut. This is simply soybeans that have been completely dried and then ground, with added oil, to a spreadable consistency, and the texture of the stuff is horrid. But do look for pumpkin seed butter in addition to the nut butters.
Don't ever use the grinding machines at a store. You have no idea what type of nuts may have been previously ground in them, and it is pretty much impossible to thoroughly clean them. If you are developing a dangerous allergy to peanuts (eczema is frequently an allergic reaction), then you would be risking your life by using any such machine.

You can buy many different nut butters. All natural too, meaning non-hydrogenated. Sounds like you're allergic to peanuts.
Almond butter and cashew butter are both soooooooooo good.
FYI, peanuts are a legume not a nut so if you have a problem with peanuts you MAY not have the same problem with nuts.
But check with your doctor because food allergies can be deadly.
