Help: Vegan Cosmetics?!
Help: Vegan Cosmetics?
Does anyone know of a shampoo and conditioner which:
a) Hasn't been tested on animals
b) Actually works well
c) Doesn't cost a fortune
I'm a student so cannot afford to be paying £6+ for a tiny bottle of shampoo!
Answers:
why don't you look at the buav 'go cruelty free' site for ideas?
personally, i buy jason aloe vera shampoo and conditioner, and they work really well. they do cost about £5.50 but you get large bottles and they smell lovely.
you can get jason products from natural collection too, who also stock vegan and cruelty free make-up, as well as other natural products that you might be interested in.

Due to law ALL cosmetic products that are allowed to be used on humans have undergone direct animal testing or use chemicals that have been animal tested even Body Shop and all the other companys that claim not to animal test are guilty of this.
You are in a no win situation sorry.
apparentely Tesco's home brand is not tested on animals./ Now excuse me, I have no idea if Tesco is a store in England or the US, because I am from neither country...
A friend told me that White Rain is a great product, she is a vegan as well.
While most cosmetics & personal care products have not been tested on animals these days, the reality is that the ingredients in them probably have. Especially w/ the new REACH regulations in Europe - animal testing, while being kept to a minimum, will be required until a better way can be determined to ensure safety.
However, you should look into Aubrey Organics, they make a natural, friendly line of cosmetics and personal care products that are very good.
What about LUSH? I think they are all and made and not tested on animals, and I believe it is not that expensive...

Body Shop stuff is good, so is De Lorenzo and PPS.

I swear by the above, they have a guide that sits in my hand bag everywhere I go so not to buy anything tested. You could also log onto www.peta.org or www.navs.org.uk
All sites that will help you in all things non tested.
Avoid most of the BIG brand names though. Most of those are tested on animals and expecially products produced by procter and gamble or unilever or Smithkline beachum. Those three are the worst companies for animal experiments and are avoided at all costs by me and mine. Body shop I avoid now as L'oreal bought them who are well known for animal testing. Although at some stage I think they did say it wouldn't be tested after years of demonstrations and boycotting l'oreal I feel I would never trust them.
Tesco also are known for not testing but over the past couple of years have lapsed. Avon may be a good one to try? make sure that when you do buy it says 'product and ingrediants not tested', rather than just finished product. If it says the latter, it usually means ingrediant has.
It all depends on how serious you are about it. I won't buy a product from a specific company even if it says not tested because they have sister companies that test, or other products are tested. So it all depends on how serious you are about it.
I highly recommend you getting the guide from Nature watch. It will open your eyes as to what to get and what not to get.
You cannot go wrong with CO-OP brand. They are BUAV approved!
Here is a website for you of various brands. Many of these brands can be found in co-ops and some major grocery stores in the US. Hopefully you can have the same luck. They seem to range from £5 +, but many of them (like Kiss My Face) are decent sized bottles.

I'm a student too and also if they seem to be a little more expensive they will last a lot.
for example, the solid shampoo cost about 6 euros but is the equal of 750ml of liquid shampoo...
At the moment I use liquid shampoo and solid conditioner. It's called "jumbo" and it is absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!
