Tofurky alternativeS?!

Question:

Tofurky alternativeS?

I really love turkey! Or loved, until I went veg because of animal cruelty. I recently tried tofurky. YUCK!!!!! It is SO gross. Is there anything else that tastes like turkey but isnt?

Answers:
My son likes .. Yves Veggie Turkey slices.... and he also thinks tofurkey is gross so give it a try ..it is in the same section where you would find tofurkey ... to the answerer above me ..there is a VAST difference in eating an animal and eating a soy product that has similar flavorings (spices) and tastes good .. people who are ethical vegetarians do not stop eating meat because they do not like the taste ..they make the decision to stop in spite of liking the taste .. so having a substitute which causes no harm and they can enjoy with a clear conscious is great ..

Stop being SO ridiculous and just eat real juicy yummy turkey. Eating animals is perfectly natural and healthy.

Holidays don’t have to be murder for turkeys, thanks to Tofurky, a scrumptious vegan alternative from Turtle Island Foods. This Thanksgiving, five lucky people will be receiving Tofurkys from peta2. We asked you to urge your friends and family to give our feathered friends a holiday pardon, and boy, did you all come through! Out of the thousands of letters sent, here are the winners:

i'm sure there are subsitutes out there, but my advice is to just avoid eating things that taste like meat. i've been a vegetarian since i was in first grade and i think eating things that are meat substitutes with the same flavors defeat the purpose of being a vegetarian. by eating these things, you are basically agreeing with the general public that meat IS good and that there is no reason to stop the animal cruelty because people still love the taste of meat. you don't need things that taste like meat! there are plenty of other better flavors out there!

The Tofurkey deli slices are better than the "roast." Try them in hicory smoked flavor. Also, eat it on a sandwich with mayo or other things- you have to warm up to it before you eat it alone.

The competitor to Tofurky is a product called UnTurkey. It comes with a crispy outer skin and is vegan as well.

See the link below for other faux turkeys:

In all honesty, give it some time. You'll warm up to it.

This sounds crazy, but we're very few born of us that love everything we do now as we do as infants, right? You're growing into a new lifestyle. It will take time to adjust. =)

While you're at it? There's a LOT of different types of tofu turkey out there. Go look in your local produce section. Scour your grocery stores! You'll find something that suits your taste, I guarantee it!

Actually I like Tofurky Oven Baked Deli Slices better than Yves brand. Go figure.

Yves turkey slices work well if you're looking for deli slices. For the thanksgiving kind of turkey- make it. Here's how. :)

Mix your stuffing and put it in the bottom of a loaf pan or in a ball on a cookie sheet.

Mix in a seperate bowl 1 lb tofu and 1-2 eggs and puree it.

either press into loaf pan or shape into turkey shape over ball of stuffing if you used the later method.

Baste your "turkey" with a small amount of soy sauce mixed with water to brown it.

Serve with gravy (which can be made with McCormics beef and/or chicken bullion which contains no animal products, corn starch and water) and cranberry sauce. Yum :)

If you aren't vegan, Quorn products may appeal to you, they have a "Turk'y Roast".

Fieldroast has a lentil sage deli slice that is really good. You can go to their website to find a store that sells them where you are.

p.s.
Someone mentioned "unturkey" the company that made those, "Now & Zen", has gone out of business

chicken

The closest I've tried that comes very close to poultry is Quorn products.
