If we can get all our nutrients?!

Question:

If we can get all our nutrients?

If we can get all our nutrients from fruits and vegetables, then why do people insist on taking the lives of innocent animal beings?

Doctors have proven in clinical studies that we do not need meat. What more proof do we need?

Answers:
Because omnivores recently discovered the big word "protein" and they use it as an excuse to keep on with a bad habit; makes them feel smart I guess. Which of course is stupid, since meat is NOT the only source of protein. It has also been proven many times that meat is a cause of diseases like cancer and that is better to avoid. But try arguing with the stupid... Just live your life and be healthy and happy.

vegan for life

Because your body needs protein. And you can't argue that.
Unless you don't care if you get weak and all of your hair falls out.

Plus, I'm not trying to be mean, but meat is yummy.

most vitamins, such as vitamin a, have greater bioavailability in meat and animal products. Some vitamins, such as vitamin b12, are not found in high enough doses in vegetable products and vegans must eat yeast extract. meat can also be tasty.

For every study that shows vegetarians don't suffer any loss of nutrients there is one saying they do.
I don't know what to believe, but I do have serious doubts about eating meat purely on an ethical basis. The vegetarians I know seem perfectly healthy, so maybe it's time for me to kick the meat habit!

well think of it if we started out not killing animals and such we would be great alll vegetarians but thats not how it happend and its like one u start something u can't stop its like being addicted to it

just because you think like that it does not mean every body else should no matter what they prove. just leave the meat heads to feast on the gore.

Traiditonally humans eat meat.
Lentils, soya and tofu just don't do it for me.

Because people like to eat what tastes good, no matter what expense.

Only over a short period, not generations, look at your tooth structure it's for a omnivore NOT a "veggie"

Remember doctors are not overly intelligent, remember Thalidomide? etc.

isn,t it just nature to eat meat..... animals eat other animals to survive....they don't eat just fruit and veg and we eat meat the same its just we kill them in a different way.... animals have to hunt and kill, humans take the easy way out and slaughter them...... its still nature. Even like lizzards n stuff eat crickets.... they kill them while they are alive to eat them and snakes even though they are so small - ish..... they eat bloody kangaroos (i saw a video of it the other day.. amazing) its a part of life.... u ever see the lion king??? stupid i know but the dad explains about the circle of life... the food chain etc etc, its always gonna be like that.

ive never been over keen on meat especially stuff thats been messed about with like pies sausages and burgers but since i looked at the factory farming websites ive really gone right off of it. im sure i'll stay healthy and slim on veg diet

Humans are followers. People are easily conned by the meat and dairy industries. People actually believe that milk is healthy for them and give it to their children each day. So basically people are easily tempted by false advertising. If they saw the inside of a slaughterhouse (watch video below) or the abuse given to animals daily, they would think different.

We have grinding teeth, not tearing teeth like a dog or lion. Our intestines are long and ridgy, not short and smooth like a carnivore. That is why so many Americans experience constipation and diverticulitis: our intestines can't carry heavy meat through the long, ridgy corridors.

Giraffes, elephants, and rhinos eat only plants. They are strong and big. We can get all the calcium, vitamins, and protein we need from a plant-based diet like these animals do.

Ok, here we have a lot of old myths perpetuated.
I've never seen a study that says vegans or vegetarians suffer nutritionally (although that doesn't mean they don't exist I guess).

However, I have seen many studies that suggest that humans are built to be herbivores and that meat eating is a lower rung on the evolutionary ladder.

To say that such and such nutrient is not available or available in low supply in non-meat sources is suspect in my opinion. The key to any diet whether it contains meat or not is variety. This is not a new concept but I've found that meat eaters typically have a very limited diet focusing too much on the meat group in their meal planning.

Personally I have found meat to be very boring as a meal option. I stopped eating meat because of that and the fact that I always felt sickly and lethargic after a meat meal. I have never had as much energy or felt more healthy then when I stopped eating meat and that includes when I stopped smoking (although it's still probably a close second).

Animal proteins have been found to contribute to kidney stones and colon cancer. Further proof that our bodies aren't designed to eat meat.

Now don't misconstrue my answer. If you want to eat meat, go for it. My point is there is no scientific evidence that meat products are a necessary part of a human's diet.

Invent a vegetable that tastes like bacon and i will agree.

Some people, I don't know why, can't survive without meat, even though the recommended daily guideline allowance is 2-3 portions - so therefore isn't so important.

And to the person who said you can't argue with not getting protein here I go:

Meat and dairy are know as "complete proteins" because they contain all the essential amino acids (the amino acids the body can't make itself). However some vegetable proteins (my god, vegetable protein? Amazing!), like quorn, tofu, soya, etc... contain all the essential amino acids so are know as "complete proteins". Although most vegetable proteins are lacking in one or more of the essential amino acids, if you eat a varied balanced diet, by mixing these proteins, you can end up with all the essential amino acids = healthy people!

you & your family are innoculated, disease free & healthy...why?? case closed!!

I was a Vegan for 5 years and am now a chef, so clearly I have become desensitised somewhere along the line. My current situation is that I have just given up alcohol and caffeine for health reasons. I accept that by choosing what we eat carefully, those nutrients found in meat or fish can be taken from non-animal derived foodstuffs. I no longer have strong emotional feelings on this subject as I did when younger but recognise that your arguement is a sound one. I would comment that you should take care that you are eating the right foods to obtain all necessary nutrients, particularly you should be eating nuts, seeds, cereals, beans and pulses as well as fruit and veg and I would also advise you take yeast extract to obtain your Vitamin B12 which is for the absorbtion of Iron. Take care! John/TOBERMORY

Tell that to the Eskimo's who live in lands were only meat and fish are available.

erm.......because we DO need meat to get certain nutrients. and yeah what about the eskimos who HAVE to eat meat and fish. what do you expect them to do? grow carrots in the snow or something? get a life and get a sausage sarnie down your neck!

The last time our form and functions matched was during the stone age. At our core are the same drivers and desires as we had as hunter gatheres. Meat is obviously a part of that.

You are of course free to eat what you like, however I believe you are denying who you are - which I feel can't be psycologically healthy. From your other posts, it seems it isn't making you particularly happy.

I'm sure this wont wont be a popular answer, however for each thumbs down, I shall console myself with a new season devilled lambs kidney.

Meat is really bad for you, especially they meat made in factory farms. You can never being short of protein, there is more than enough in everything and the protein that hasn't already been used is best.
So ether people have been influenced by the crap that the bureaucrats can make money from. Or they can't except that they were wrong all this time. Or it's not about health.

There are a variety of reasons why some people reject vegetarianism:

* Lack of choice - Res's mentioning of Eskimos for instance.

* Taste: many people enjoy the taste of burnt flesh.

* Assumptions about existence - "Animals wouldn't exist if we didn't eat them" (the words of my older brother - idiot)

* Denial about the suffering of animals / Lack of empathy for the suffering of animals.

* Ignorance about not being able to get enough protein.

* A sense of meaningless about an individual's behaviour.

* False priorities - the idea that we have to put humans first.

In the end though, as vegetarians, we should respect the dietry choices of meat-eaters if we expect them to respect ours.

People have different life values to you, you might live a happier life if you learn to understand that point.

Some people have no, NO, conscience about killing. animals. They just cannot comprehend its an issue.

By the way, have you seen all the anti-Ashley comments in this forum ? Perhaps you could also learn from them. Some of them are hilarious. You are non-too-popular

OH PLEASE JUST SHUT UP!

I am a vegetarian. The only reason i have ever heard for eating meat is 'we like the taste' That is the only good reason they have.

Needing protein is a ridiculous idea because we can get it from other sources(IE nuts)
