Why are vegetarians so self righteous and hateful?!

Question:

Why are vegetarians so self righteous and hateful?

I asked a question here a few days ago about what vegetarians thought about people who slaughtered their own meat. I got called a murderer, had my family threatened, and told I was going to hell.

I also observed that a lot of vegetarians seem to be rebellious children who are doing what they do just because they think its the "cool" thing to do.

Is a vegetarians love for animals balanced out by hate for their fellow man?

I answered that question, and I went back and looked at some of the responses. I think you should realize that the two responses that I found to be particularly spiteful looked like they came from pretty young people who probably act that way in any situation ... as young people tend to do. I thought most of the answers were honest, and just because they weren't what you wanted to hear, you didn't like them. Sure, it is murder. I don't have a problem with meat eaters, but you are murdering your animals. That's a fact.

You're looking only at the responses you want to focus on so that you can feel better. You asked us vegetarians/vegans a question about our ethics, and we responded. And where did you observe these "hip" vegetarian children? I've never met a vegetarian kid. I'm just curious. Oh, and I didn't see one response that said you were going to hell.

Please don't lie about people.

OHHH I get it. You're the "are all vegans scrawny weaklings?" asker. I see. I could come kick your *ss, we'll just say that :)

I have noticed that many vegetarians are self righteous. Probably because of the mindset that they are too good to kill animals.

not all of them. im not.
its just like any belief, you get the nutcase (no pun intended) militants on the fringes that make the most noise. its like saying all muslims are terrorists etc....

I went and read the answers to your previous question, and you are grossly mischaracterizing the tone of the answers you received.

most people who live a different lifestyle expect everyone to convert or they put them down, who cares what they think, live your way and be happy.

I'm not one of the people who answered your previous question or threatened you in any way, but I have to ask.... What did you expect?? Maybe we veg*ns are just tired of being picked on. Why would you ask a question like that, knowing what kind of reaction it would get (and yes, you DID know). Many people make the choice to go veg*n due to a deep compassion for animals. If you don't agree, fine. But don't complain about the passionate and sometimes outrageous reaction when you purposely stir the pot.

well, i am a 13 year old and do not think it is "cool", i just don't like red meat. also, i only eat free range chicken. um, my mother has rhumatoid arthritis and she can't eat red meat so i just followed her for a while until i realized how gross some things really are. i make sure to get tons of vitamins and minerals in my diet and not eat unhealthy things either. i love seeing vegitarians scarfing down junk food...sad. anyways, i don't see what is so wrong about loving animals over people; they do not hurt unless threatened or mistreated, countless amounts of them die because of humans, and they are better companions. they do not lie, cheat, or start wars. you shouldn't stereotype vegetarians like that.
PS i'm going vegan when i'm older ; )

The vegetarians you speak of are people who couldn't hack it in college or the job market. So in order to cover up their failure in life, they attach themselves to some sort of self righteous cause. By doing so it seems like they had no time for a career or a life because they were too busy crusading against the evils in the world. Of course I'm not talking about all vegetarians, only the ones that go around spreading their ideals like that. They don't love animals, they just love attention. I applaud you for slaughtering your own meat. Kill the next animal for me.

not all vegetarians think exactly the same, just as omnis dont. im sorry you were threatened, thats ridiculous. but killing another animal for you dinner is murder. if it doesn't bother you though, then why bother asking us our opinions? thats silly as we are (for the most part) against killing animals. what did you really expect?

Befriend one locally..you'll see it's not true.

i have no idea

Grin and bear it as they say - oh while we are smiling show them your incisors and canines. We are engineered to eat meat. Just the way it is. I think its the lack of protein that makes them so delusional. How many Eskimos do you know that have a herb garden behind their igloo?

I am vegetarian, and I would never go the route to calling someone who slaughtered their own meat a murderer, nor threaten their family. Now, if you tortured animals before killing them, that is another story. Sometimes, I have been a little scrutinizing to people who aren't vegetarian because they don't care to hear about animal rights or make fun of the way that I think about animals. Sometimes I have felt that animals are more important than people because as another poster has said, animals don't start war, they don't lie or cheat. What I do hate is watching videos online of people hurting animals before they're going to be killed, or animals in factory farms and places like that. It sickens me the way they think they have the right to do that to an animal, or to anything really. I do believe more people are getting involved in vegetarianism as it might be the "cool" or popular thing to do. Their friends might be doing it, so they join in, not knowing their friends cause behind it. Some people just get caught up in that stuff.

Don't you think you are generalizing a bit here? And, frankly, Y!Answers does tend to attract younger folks, so why would you be so surprised at that reaction?

I have seen vegetarians and meat-eaters provoke each other.

ok. here is what I think about this....

I'm vegan.
I HATE the vegans who are 'preachy'
They ruin the vegan reputation

murder is what it is. but I would not say terrible things like that.

You have your reasons and believes about what you do.
I don't think that you enjoy killing animals (at least i hope not)

And if that's true than you are no different than all the other thousands of people who buy meat.

you are not a bad person.

I read the answers and I didn't see anyone personally attacking you,They said it is murder, they meant that killing an animal for the sake of food uneedingly is an act that is detestable.

bascially vegans and vegetarians are smart. you never see a vegan redneck with a 5th grade education running around. sometimes as a vegetarian i get frustrated that other people cant see things from my point of view , i get irritated that i live in a world where people kill for food . if i was smart enough to realize that its wrong how come my mom isnt smart enough or even my neighbor? and when i confront them about my lifestyle all i get are ignorant remarks and laughs . you shouldnt pose a question about killing animals in this section without expecting to get some realistic comments because people who dont kill for food are just that REALISTIC . just post your question in a better section next time and you will get a better response. if you want to post more questions here thats great but just man up a little bit and stop being a little kitty.

ps. not eating animals is the "cool" thing to do so let the little bastards make it into a trend they will save lives that way.

There are probably just as many hateful omnivores. Unfortunately "There's a bad apple in every bushel!" I think there's a higher percentage on this forum than in real life though.

You obviously post these questions on here because you want to start some controversy.

Personally, I do feel like Meat eaters are murderers. I know killing animals is wrong. No matter what anyone says. I don't feel like i'm better than anyone else...but honestly, I think it's wrong, and I'm sure alot of people agree, even meat eaters. It is ignorant to kill an animal for food when there is so many other things to eat. Even if it does taste "good". I wonder how some people can have no sympathy for the animal. So many meat eaters ask me about my veganism to learn about it, the ones that say veganism is stupid, animals don't have feelings, are the ones that are jealous, Perhaps because they don't have the willpower? Or because they don't stand up for what they believe in..Shoot idk, I'm just a kid, but you were called a murderer because...you are a murderer. It is wrong to threaten you're family, but shoot, you kill animals, and they have a family, and feelings. How can anyone have sympathy for you? You obviously have the wrong idea about veganism/vegetarianism.

It's a shame that some people reacted in that way, but that's no reason to make out we are all the same. I, and most other veg*ns are not self righteous nor are we hateful.

No one should be as general as this about any 'group' of people, we're all totally equal and you can't judge someone by what they choose to eat.

Not all of us are hateful. =/

Well I am a Vegetarian.. and not self righteous or hateful.....
Because I respect..each opinion...
I have choose by myself.. that I will never eat meat again..
i want that people understand they way I live without meat.. but I Also have to understand that some other person love to eat meat...
