Why do people think this???!
Why do people think this???
ok, people come into this section every day(non-vegitarians) and start associating vegetarians and vegans with vegetables--only. there are millions of non-animal foods out there and everyone thinks that vegetarians survive on only carrots and lettuce. do the omnivorous survive on only steak??? if so, we would all be dead!!!!!
Answers:
Because humans like to categorize everything into nice little groups, and then those groups attack each other. Everything in America is categorized, but we need to learn to live as one without labels.
What is so funny about the whole situation is that everyone is a vegetarian or vegan to some extent. 65-80% of what a meat-eaters consumes is vegetarian food, but yet they condemn those who eat 100% vegetarian.
Totally agree with u. i think there is not enough info on vegetarian and vegan diet around,

There are so many wonderful foods that are not meat.
Fruits, vegetables, pasteries, wonderful breads, lots of grains, pastas and the list goes on and on.
They just want to try and find fault with our way of eating.
Lack of imagination, and being too stuck in their own ways to pay attention to what other people do. And being too silly to realise that meat isn't the only food with protien in it. Some people just can't imagine a meal without meat - even though they eat stuff that's not meat (and not vegetables either) every day. I was vegetarian for 2 years, (not anymore) and I'm glad I was cause of the way I see meat now. You don't HAVE to have meat to make a satisfying dish.
The answer is in the verbiage. Omnivores eat all things -OMNI. and Vegetarins vegetables-Veg.
So let me understand, vegetarians/vegans eat more than vegetation.
Sorry, I am from Earth. Everything we have here can be loosely fitted into one of three headings, animal, mineral or vegetable. So if you are from Earth and you are a vegetarian that eats more than vegetables you must be eating animals or rocks.
BTW, if someone is surviving on only steak that someone would be a carnivore not an omnivore.
Vegetarians and vegans amaze me. They are smarter than millions and millions of years of evolution. I wish I was that certain of my own name...
they're jealous.
You make a great point.
What I'd also like to know, is why some omnivores are so da** obsessed with what we eat in the first place!
And why many insist on lurking on these forums, looking for an argument? I am not generalizing about all omnivores being this way, because I know some that are above this sort of behavior.
It would be different if they were actually here, seeking information and admitting that they know nothing about why we make the choice to be vegetarians/vegans-but they come here, close-minded, ignorant with sticks stuck up their a**es.
And they create stories/facts in their minds and blame vegetarians for things that we've never done.
I think perhaps deep down they feel guilty that they consume animal flesh but are too 'proud' to admit it? Or that they lack intelligence and are too lazy to educate themselves on vegetarianism?
When I do not understand something, rather than ridiculing others if their choice to do something is different than mine, I choose to educate myself on the subject.
It could also be that they have no other way to utilize their time.
I see the vegan/vegetarian diet as nothing more than a choice, just as people CHOOSE to include meat in their diet.
There is nothing wrong either way. For myself I prefer a wide range of foods, I like a good burger every once and a while but most of the time I eat fruit, veggies, whole grain, pastas etc. Hubby on the other hand LOVES his steaks but planning meals really isn't that hard.
I think what is sad is that people are becoming self-righteous
on "both sides of the fence."
I say to each their own, what you eat is your own damn business.
