Is it okay to eat meat once a week, then be vegetarian on all of the other days?!

Question:

Is it okay to eat meat once a week, then be vegetarian on all of the other days?

Answers:
you can do whatever you feel is right for you. you don't need to label yourself a vegetarian, just eat

i don't think u should be a vegetarian at all, u miss too much protein

Then you aren't a vegetarian!

Eat what you want and don't give it a label!

Guess what! It's ok to eat how you want! I'm not vegetarian but most weeks have 2 non-meat meals.

I think it is OK, why not? I consder myself almost totally vegetarian but on occasion I will eat shrimp or a hamburger or something. It is healthier to be mostly vegetarian, I think, but the Veggie Police are not going to come for you if you eat some meat once a week, right? It is totally your call.

You wouldn't be considered a vegetarian, if thats what you are asking. However less meat in your diet is healthier than eating meat all the time, no need to worry about labeling yourself, just eat healthy.

yes of course but i think it is totaly up to you

Sure! IF you don't call youreself a vegetarian because you're not.

Why not? If you are a vegetarian for health reasons then certainly once a week won't hurt. If you don't believe in eating animals then you have to follow your conscience. I have eaten meat for 62 years and can't imagine not. I wouldn't know how to fix a meal if meat were not the main coarse. I have no problem with any one's right to choose their food or anything else. I have known 10 or 12 vegetarians in the past and everyone of them was thin, pale, and rarely ever felt good. They caught every flu bug and cold that went around. Could have been just their nature, I don't know.

What you eat is up to you.
The important thing is that you have a healthy balanced diet

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!Being a vegetarian means giving up all meat, there is no exceptions! If you want to be a vegetarian, you have to give up all meat.Just think of the poor animals dying. Why are they,so you can eat it!sorry about the rudeness, but vegetarianism is a serious issue.

It sounds to me like you're wanting the lable of a vegetarian and not necessarily concerned about what you're eating.

Or maybe you're wanting to cut back on meat due to health or ethic reasoning.

Either way:

1) Eating less meat will make a difference, so, as long as you stay healthy go for it. Even if you eat some meat later on in the week, you're still cutting back.

2) You aren't a vegetarian if you eat meat. If you're confused about what to say when people ask just tell them that you eat a mostly vegetarian diet but you're not strictly veggie.

Eat for your own beliefs, not what you want people to believe about you.

do whatever it is you want to do.

Why would you want to?

But to answer your question, you can. But if you dig deeper, you can find vegetarian meat substitutes to fill any cravings you may have.

Honestly, I tell meat eaters all the time to just scale back. The average american will eat meat with every single meal they have in a day. So if you scale back to one meat per weak, kudos to you!

Don't be shocked if after practicing this you will decide that you'd rather not partake of meat at all.

Its your diet, do what you want. Its always good to cut down on meat for health reasons. Dont listen to the people who tell you its not OK, chances are they are new to being Vegetarian and feel they have to justify their decision by being militant about it.

IT is ok to do whatever your own self prefers, however, this is not vegetarianism, you eat meat, no matter how infrequent it is, this does disqualify you from Vegetarian status. My duaghter is a vegetarian. I am not. I eat vegetarian about 3 to 4 times a week. I might only eat meat or meat products once a week, but this makes me an omnivore! I am not a vegetarian, though I have some veg habbits and there are certianthings I do not make or buy because of the vegetarian habits of my kid, but I still eat a burger or a steak or chicken here and there. So, is that bad? Not in my book. Am I a vegetarian? Of course not! Do I respect my vegetarian kid? Of course I do!

Do what you want, its really sick and twisted how some of these veggies view the vegetarian label as som "prize" that you are not worthy of if you eat meat, it is just another symptom of their militant sickness.

Is it okay by whose standards? If it's your choice and that's what you decide, I guess it's "okay" then, but you wouldn't be vegetarian those other days. Vegetarianism isn't a daily choice; it's a lifestyle choice wherein you choose to not kill other life and cause the least harm possible (and, here, I'm using vegetarianism to mean veganism, since people who consume meatless animal products do cause death to animals).

So, in short, you decide what you are comfortable with, but if you eat any meat at all, you are not a vegetarian.

Sure but don't call yourself a vegetarian.

Well you wouldn't be a vegetarian, but hey you'd be doing something : ]

So I say if you want, start out like that, and then maybe progress to complete vegetarianism.
Good luck!

If it suits your preferences and lifestyle, then certainly it is OK.

Don't get caught up in trying to decide if what you do suits a particular label. Decide what you want to do and then see if there is a label that fits you!

Eating a healthy, balanced vegetarian diet six days a week can't be bad for you, and you have your reasons for eating meat on the other day.

After a while, you may find that the meat eating becomes less important.

But the most important things ~ lots of variety and a healthy balance!

Good health to you :-)

no because that is totally denying the whole entire purpose of being a vegetarian, it would just be a meat eater but you don't eat meat often

UM WHAT that's absurd. no, you can't!

if you want to eat meat once a week, then obviously vegetarianism isn't for you.

It's OK to eat whatever balanced diet is right for you. Why do you need someone's permission to eat as you will or need some purity badge? Many people choose to limit the amount of meat and fish they consume for health reasons but don't need to join a movement to do so. Are you wanting to be considered a vegetarian for some reason that doesn't have to do with just food? If you must have a label, call yourself "near vegetarian."

Sure, it's OK..but you still would not be a vegetarian.

Ha, Ha.

NO

I did once meet a girl who said she was veggie during the week but not at weekend. I thought that was so bizzare she must be the only one in the world - seems not.

Nonsense.

A veggie does not eat meat, fish, poultry or slaughter by-products.

There is no room for eating meat occasionally.

Thats like saying all avid meat-eaters are vegetarians when they haven't got a piece of beef in thier mouth.

Are cows eaten at the weekend any less dead ?? No , thought not.

Lidian...what on earth is your thinking "almost veggie but occassinaly eat shrimp or a hamburger"...are you taking the piss or something ? Do es us all a favour and STOP calling youself anything like "almost a veggie" - you are a meat-eater, be honest with yourself.

You can do that if you wish but you can't just be vegeterian the other six days. Don't label it. That gives other vegeterians bad names.

There is nothing to stop you from enjoying vegetarian meals. Is there? Just don't call yourself a vegetarian.
