What's a good vegetarian diet that is low fibre, high protein?
I've tried eating more fruit in my daily routine but this isn't doing me any good, just causing alot of pain.

Low fiber is bad for you. You might need to ease into the high fiber diet though...a lot of fiber if you're not used to it can be a little bit of a shock to your digestive system. If you want a lot of protein, peanut butter, chickpeas, soybeans, any kind of bean, and also dairy and eggs if you eat them, have lots of protein.

nuts could be a good place to start but they will make you fat!

I would suggest taking a quality B12 supplement as this assists with digestion. I didn't used to eat meat (mainly because I didn't like it) and constantly had IBS - cramps, upset stomach etc, My sister (a nutritionist) advised me that if you remove an entire food group from your diet you need to replace not only the protein etc but also the important vitamins and minerals you obtain from that food. With meat, this is B12 and iron (iron is much more efficiently absorbed in the "heam" form - i.e. blood from meat). So, I went out a bought some minced beef (from a local organic farm shop) and within 48 hours "things" were back to normal. That was two months ago and no problems since. Of course, it depends on your ethics regarding eating meat which I fully appreciate. I don't eat meat everyday - probably minced beef twice and chicken once. It has made all the difference.

The only low fiber vegetarian protein that I can think of is tofu, or meat substitutes made from soy. You need fiber, but you've probably gone overboard and started eating too much, too fast - which is causing the pain. Add something like Beano when cooking your beans, and that should help. Gradually add the fiber to your diet and your system will adjust.
