Meat-eaters questions?!

Question:

Meat-eaters questions?

I'm not trying to push my opinions. Lets please keep this civil.
Are you happy not knowing where your food comes from?
Do you see cows as just food?
I am trying to figure out how people can just be happy not knowing the truth about what they eat and how people can look at a living, breathing, feeling, creature and just see food.
I am not trying to push or be rude, I'm just asking. Please dont get mad. Also please dont feed me a bunch of stuff out of the bible I have heard it all, I'm not asking how the bible sees it, I'm asking how you, as a individual person, sees it.

Answers:
These are good questions. I am a vegan now but I will tell you how it was before that. I was a vegetarian for a few years, and began dating someone who ate meat and started eating chicken.fish again due to pressure daily and my lack of confidence in my own beliefs. When I ate it I would often gag on sandwiches etc, thinking about what I was eating...than Id choose just to ignore it. I am not sure many would bother to tell you that truth, its just not something they think about, simply because they dont want too. Ill also say, even after you said no bible references people are still refering to it. I guess its their upbringing to believe that the bible overcomes individuality and they truly see that as the right way..(when of course everything has been so severly misquoted by the answers above!) but it doesnt matter, people only hear the parts they choose to believe. I think alot of "meat eaters" will easily see how ludicrous the statement "god put animals here for us to eat" is. Humans are sadly incredibly self centered and selfish and cant seem to really grasp the idea of the big picture, that there is more to this world than just humans and things "given" to humans. And though the food chain does exist, that doesnt mean we fit properly into it. I dont know whether it truly is "right" or "wrong" to eat meat..after all right and wrong is really just a man made concept. I do know, that being a human I have the ability to make choices, and to me vegan is the right choice. Meat isnt neccesary and though you can argue it until the end of days, that will always be the truth so long as we have the sources. And, if we didnt have the resources, well we'd all be screwed as there wouldnt be any meat eaters either!!!

well I dont see animals as just food. I dont eat a lot of meat, I go for months without eating any kind of meat at all. I am not really a complete vegetarian or anything, but I dont really like meat, so I could be a vegetarian, I was actually thinking of becoming one. I think there are plenty other ways to get the protein you need, like from beans and peanut butter, so thats what I eat to get my protein most of the time. Also if you eat a lot of fatty meat you will get fat.

I see a cow as food, as a pet (if I were to live on a farm) as somewhere to get fresh milk. I grew up super poor eating deer and elk meat because my parents could not afford beef. Now I cannot eat either of those. Also my perception of deer being food and beef being food are opposite. I would never go out and kill a deer for dinner but a cow is a different story. I don't know why, it just is. Prolly because I have been desensitized to cows being raised for food. Blame it on society, blame it on my upbringing. Either way, it is still food.

I am vegan or sometimes vegetarian but you must realize most people are not aware of reality and don't want to be. They want to keep eating flesh so they can't see the animal as a living sentient being. Understand that this is a personal choice for us and it is for them too.

One way cow-eaters would be conditioned into continuously feeding their habit could be associated with the power, the smell, the cutting, cooking, etc. Stabbing the meat and cutting it with a sharp object could be fun to some crazy people. Who knows! It might be the smell of cooked blood.... :(

Well, I tried to engage a cow in conversation, but to no avail. So I figured, why not eat it. I'm doing it a favor, there dumb, ugly and smell bad. My philosophy is simple. If they are dumb, eat'em.

all animals are food including us when we die if we are buried the worms and flys eat us

I'm not making any kind of excuse and I hope you find a way to understand and also I apologize for your grief over livestock, but that's how I see them and I cannot resist my primal need to eat meat. I Bar-B-Que at home and make it a special event, maybe so I won't really think about that much by making it a special occasion, maybe that's the way they did in the Bible with the Sacrifices...You may know more than me? All I know is that I have an overwhelming need, a hunger and sometimes an intense craving for meat, but I admire that you can resist it!

Oh by the way... I want to know who was the first to see a Chicken laying an egg and then said... I'm going to eat that? lol

Look, God made certain animals so we can be healthy and EAT them... I'm not talking about cats and dogs, I am talking about cows and pigs and chickens. I do know what they are doing with the food, and I am okay with them killing LIVESTOCK in order for me to eat. They do not have souls like we do, or else God wouldn't have said (IN THE BIBLE) that it's okay for us to eat them. The livestock (animals) do not have feelings, therefore, we can eat them without feeling guilty! And, no, I do not want to see them being slaughtered. But, I am a carnavore (as God INTENDED) and I am not an animal HATER. Infact I am an ANIMAL LOVER (not a LIVESTOCK lover)... So, does that answer your question? It is NOT HEALTHY to not eat meat!!! God made certain animals for us to eat... Thats it. I hope this answers your question. And I am not mad. God Bless!

We dont see animals as food, we just see groceries as food, do you care what kind of chemicals they put into all of the vegies you eat, that those same chemicals can be killing cows all over the world with out them having no good ending, in the other case we use them as food and to keep us alive. Not everyone is a vegetarian like you. That tofu thing sucks i have tried it. What is your point anyway, saving animals or the environment or just trying to convert people to vegetarians? In the case you want to save the animal or the environment do you do anything to help your cause? Not waste gas, plant trees, change your house into a "green house" WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP YOUR CAUSE? First start with you and your family then you can start with the rest of the people all over the world. What if you live in the desert what the **** are you going to eat cactus all day long??? You can eat a snake, a lizard.I bet if you were dying of hunger you will eat an animal too, soo dont be a pu$$y bitche. All in good, take it as it comes dont get mad get glad. "EAT MORE CHIKEN"

i eat meat but not a lot. i really care about animals so i would never look at an animal and think of it as food. no matter what animal it is that i am looking at. i don't like that i don't know much about the meat that i do eat but i also wouldn't want to know to much either. i wouldn't want to see a picture or know the name of an animal that i am eating b/c then i would feel terrible and would never touch meat.

I LOVE animals and would never hurt one of them. I've thought about becoming all veg but I mean, it's impossible to get everyone else to go veg so the meat farms are still going to be killing cows. Why just let the meat sit there on the isle? so I buy it. Anyway I'm gonna ask u a couple of questions to you. Are you Christian? Why did God make animals if they're not for eating?

I love the taste of cooked meat, How do other animals eat meat. To survive. Humans are meat eaters, Our appendix was an organ to help in the digestion of raw meat, Since humans started to cook meat that organ became dormant.

Food comes from the store.

I love animals, but I'm not a vegetarian. So why is it that those videos of animals in slaughterhouses can make me feel bad, but not bad enough to stop eating meat? I think humans are physically supposed to be omnivores. Plants alone do not supply the proper amounts of vitamins and minerals essential to survival. Meat alone doesn't either, but a combination of the two works. I'm not denying that a vegetarian diet can have advantages, I just think its disadvantages outweigh the advantages. I also think that it seems pretty self-explanatory that eating other animals is a natural thing. Other animals eat meat, why shouldn't we? I've heard the argument that humans shouldn't eat meat because we are a more advanced species, therefore we should "know better." For example, dolphins are a very advanced species, and they eat fish. They learn, they have their own language, and they have the ability to teach their young on a more advanced level than "this is how you hunt.". There have been studies done on intelligent animals to see if humans can train them, and then the animal teaches the training to their young. It's fascinating. I do, however, feel that it isn't right to eat reasonably intelligent animals, such as octopus or squid.

I think it's just a personal thing. To be honest, when I'm eating a piece of fish or chicken etc. I really don't sit there ruminating over the fact that it once was swimming or running around or whatever. On the other hand, I went to a Super Bowl party once wher the host served up barbequed roast sandwiches.....the meat in the roast consisted of a deer he had shot himself....the head of which was mounted on his living room wall. I don't like deer meat anyway but I really didn't like the fact that everyone else was sitting there chowing down with that beautiful creture staring them in the face. I had a pet pig when I was a kid.....I didn't eat pork until I was in my thirties. The way I see it, if it bothers you, don't eat it, if it doesn't , go ahead and enjoy. The fact is, whether you want to hear it or not, that people have been consuming animals since the dawn of civilization and if there were still creatures roaming the earth bigger than us now.....they'd be serving us up for Sunday supper. On the whole, society DOES consume WAY MORE meat than is necessary though. No, I do not see cows as just food. I love cows. I think they're really cute and I certainly wouldn't eat a steak in front of one of them and I could never eat one that I had owned...I'd make a lousy farmer. I don't fish for that very reason.

I eat meat and am also a farmer so I know where food comes from. I used to feed cattle and raise hogs. They are good food because people need to eat and they provide good eating. Cattle and pigs in the wild don't do good, cows certainly wouldn't survive and wild hogs are a big nuicance because they dig into things. So I have no problem eating meat.

I believe that all things have a spirit or animus. When we injure plants in order to eat them, we do violence to a spirit just as surely as when we kill and eat an animal. I believe that we should give reverence and do honor to all that is harmed so that we may live and that all things are interrelated. Eating an ear of corn or killing an animal for food... both are in essence the same and the human animal is by nature an omnivore. We should follow nature. When we die, our bodies will feed worms... it is the cycle of life.

I just see food as surviving not nothing personal to the animals but yes i like chicken and beef and pork and some deer as a matter of fact i use to have a cow as a pet i loved that cow very much and i had to leave the cow with my dad when i went back to live with my mom and of course he says that he had to get rid of my pet his name was mickey i bottle fed him and taught him to drink from trough and so on so i just see it as good and food and like i said nothing personal to the animals but, you have to feed your kids other that vegies all the time they need their protein also i think if being a vegitarian is better left up to the individual when they get old enough to make that choice and do it the healthy way and not the wrong way.

Hi there,I am a child of the 60,s,mom and dad both vegetrarians and that was the way that we ate, still fish was okay now and then. When I hit high-school age,I made friends with kids that loved Mc Donalds and Jack in the Box and I guess it was like gettting started on drugs as far as my parents were concerned.
Since then I have been vegan, vegetarian, meat lover and all the things in between. The book Diet for a new America really opened my eyes up to a lot of things, but sorrry,I can't resist my husbands lamb on the b.b.q.
I love my cat ,Sinbad and feed the possums in the backyard to my neighbors dismay. I love the cows and horses that we see when we visit Baja once a month and would be truly embarrassed if they knew the truth about me.I feed them apples and carrots and love them.Your question is not rude, someone as soft spoken as you in this discussion is great for the world.People on the defense will always try to put you on the offense, thats animal like. But we are human and make conciense choices and if we really want to be down with the world, brighten someone elses day and don't judge, just learn.
Happy is all about that little corner that you can brighten today.Peace,D.

Well I look at it that I am an omnivore and as such I was created with these eye teeth for a reason. I dont live in denial of what I am. I dont judge people for there choices, because a persons food consumption is just that, a personal choice. I am sure you dont like to be judged for your choice to not eat mammels, and I dont like to be judge for eating them. If you look at it as eating a living breathing thing, then I say everything on earth is a living breathing thing, except maybe rocks. Plants breath through there leaves, and they are alive and grow. I think that you should do what makes you happy, and I will do the same.

Luckily, I know where most of my meat comes from; the loca farmers I have known and trusted for years. I do not, however, know where my store bought produce originates from, and that is more disturbing to me than any meat issue.

Not every cow is going to wind up in a slaughterhouse. Cows, pigs, chickens, etc are raised for slaughter. I love my dogs and my kids' cat, but I don't see them as food either. I eat a lot of venison and wild turkey because it eases my food bill, and quite honestly, it's tastier than anything one can get in a store.

Im a person who likes both meat and vegetation. I am kind of against eating some porks now because of the living conditions of the pigs who lie around all day in the mud in an over crowded pig pen where they cant even move and people have to turn them over. It makes them a lot less healthy to eat than if they were allowed to run around the farm. Plants are also not all natural and can be just as bad when they inject DNA from animals to prevent them from being eatin by insects so I limit my foods to what I know is pretty healthy. Most of my meat and vegetables come from local farm im from arkansas and indians used to run thousands of buffalo off of a cliff and only use a few hundred at the most so cows as food as long is not wasted is good with me.

I see animals being raised as food no different than wheat, corn or carrots. what scares me is the mass production of our farms and the synthetics, preservatives, chemicals, and other crap that goes into the live stocks feed and animals. I believe it is much better to buy local, fresh, and organic meats and produce when ever possible. I know not all is known about organic or what is defined as organic, but it makes for a healthier planet and healthier lives. I do not just see cow, cattle as food, we raised them for years. They are smart loyal animals, and they have big brown eyes. They offer no harm to any living being. True gentle giants. But I do enjoy a steak or burger every now and then.

This is an interesting question. I am a "near vegetarian". The only time i ever eat meat is when it is served to me for a special occaision such as thanksgiving or christmas. I choose to not eat meat on a daily basis for health reasons as well as moral reasons (I guess i am kind of a hypocrite for not completely abstaining from carnivorism!) One thing that I have realized is that in our country we have an opportunity to adopt such lifestyles as vegetarianism or veganism, because we have abundance of wealth and food of all kinds. In poorer countries do you think people even have the option of becoming vegans? I think that people there (and poor people here) would welcome any kind of sustinence, whereas here we have the luxury to be a little bit more selective in our diets. My friend was a vegetarian for years and went to work on a volunteer project in Paraguay where she came to realize that her vegetarianism in context with the poverty in that country was selfish. I am not saying that choosing veganism or vegetarianism is a selfish choice, just that we should all be greatful to have enough to eat, and realize that not everyone has the abundance of foods that we have here in the US.
As far as people not knowing or not caring about taking the life of animals as their food, I think that like many other aspects of our culture, people are uneducated, selfish and distracted (since our life here is so fast paced and filled with mind numbing substances such as television), to really care or even know about the issue. Congratulations on being on of the few Americans to step out of their bubble and think about our world, and what is right and wrong for you. That is rare.

I see livestock as both a living breathing feeling creature and a source of food. I have personally raised calves and sent them off to the butcher, I've done the same with sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, and turkeys. (Though the chickens, rabbits, and turkeys I've butchered myself.)
When you know an animal is destined for the table, you don't allow yourself to ever see them as pets. Also, when they are little they are cute and sweet, but when they are big enough to pen you to the corral fence when you are just cleaning out the old bedding and putting in fresh, they aren't so cute any more.

I think it is a world view issue. I see humans as a different (higher) order than animals. As such, I don't have a problem with knowing that animals die so I can eat.

your right. when i was a meat eater i didnt think about things like that but when i started doing my home work about my food and finding out more and more about how the animals was killed and treated the more the i hated the thought of eating meat. they have every right to live and i think people will find the site helpful http://www.slaughterhousecam.com/...
