Clams, oysters, scallops and mussels?!
Clams, oysters, scallops and mussels?
These are still innocent creatures, just like the millions of cows slaughtered each year for food, even though we can get everything we needs from fresh fruits and vegetables.
How can I explain to someone that they can not eat bivalves?

You can't. Its up to them.
This is a negative message, please report me.
Judging by the other answers, you've got a lot of clicking to do. Go on, get to it.
I noice you've asked 21 questions and never bothered to choose a "best answer" for any of them. I guess this shows that really you don't care about the answer and just want to get on your soapbox. It's something we all knew, but by not choosing answers you've provided the evidence its true.
Let me help you...this site is called Yahoo ANSWERS
I used to think you were probably just an over-enthusastic teenager who couldn't communicate. Now i just think you're stupid and probably <12 years old.
Tell them about the "Red Tide" that occurs off the Calif coast every year
The Jewish people were very smart. It was forbidden to eat shell fish of any kind as they new way back that shellfish were the scavengers of the sea. Would they eat off a garbage truck?
I don't think it's your place to explain to anyone what they "can" and "cannot" eat. We are at the top of the food chain, and are made to eat all foods. Just look at our teeth! Those long incisors are there to tear flesh. Sorry, but that's a fact. If you choose to eat in a vegetarian manner, that's your choice and yours alone.
You can't. People don't see anything as an animal if it doesn't have a cute little face.
They are the dirtiest of the sea creatures as are crustaceans. Not Kosher(clean)
Used to love cockles, whelks and mussels - used to be 'Sunday High Tea'. Luverly!!!!!
Oysters and champagne - said to be an aphrodisiac - Hmmmm - not sure about that - but nonetheless - have eaten them (and like them). Place in France - Jard Sur mer where there is a restaurant which serves oyster soup - again delicious!!!!
They are just like any other animal; like cows, pigs and dogs, they have the ability to feel pain. The question is not whether can they talk, or can they reason, but rather, can they suffer? If the person doesn't accept or believe it, then it's up to him. You can't and don't force someone into doing something.
Generally, people don't think of the suffering of which they spare themselves the sight and feeling of.
well if ur not going to allow answers u dont agree with u shouldnt be asking questions anyway. we dont get everything we need from vegetables; youre sadly mistaken. vitamins and minerals arent spread equally between meat and vegetables. we would have to graze like a cow to get the proper amount of protein for example we need. and we wouldnt get the amount of fat that our bodies need either. but not to shoot ur silly question down. not only are we as humans not meant to eat just vegetation we arent meant to eat just meat either. to eat just one of the two isnt healthy. and i bet u are one of those vegetarians that say its ok to eat fish or chicken eggs etc...simple thing from science class (animal, vegetable;mineral) fish, chickens etc... are meat.
innocent creatures thats funny i wanna see some vegetarian goto africa and smak around a lion; bad kitty that poor gazel what it do to u
You CAN'T tell people what to eat and what not to eat. How would you feel if someone tried to force you to eat meat? You never ever listen do you? You personally are turning people more and more against vegans. Your doing way more harm than good.
To 'Bubbeh C' I think if I hear one more ridiculous statement about being 'top of the food chain' or 'long incisor teeth' I'm going to scream. Are you for real?!?! We have FLAT teeth and two very paltry, slightly-pointer-than-the-rest teeth. Compare your teeth and jaw to a lion and you'll see what I mean. Also, you couldn't even chew meat if if wasn't for cooking it first. Does a lion fire up the BBQ every time she catches a zebra? Now that really is ripping and chewing up meat. While we're on the subject of lions, we'll put you in a cage with a hungry lion and see if you're still top of the food chain then. Ha ha.
I have to agree with you on this one - I had a bad experience with shellfish once and have never eaten them since.
Perhaps thats the answer - cows should try to poison us rather than being super tasty.
In nature, things that don't want to be eaten taste foul or are poisonous.
Oh I did not realise you could eats these animals thanks for letting me know it is possible to eats these!!!!!!!! I am off out to buy loads of them ,, do they come alive or already dead ?
Cheers for the info I hope you feel proud that you have brought this to my attention and you are personally responsible for the death of these creatures well at least as many as I put in my pot.
Well, this is how I explain why I abstain from certain foods:
If it has 1) a face or 2) a mom, I won't eat it. I think that the bivavles you described had a mom...they don't just appear out of nowhere. That means it is a living creature.
IMO, this is a very foolish position to take. You can tell anybody anything you want. But it's up to them if they want to do it. I would suggest that if you start ardently pressing this "bivalve issue" upon someone, you stand a good chance of getting laughed at. So beware!
CAN'T? The fact that people do means they CAN.
