Is poultry & fish meat?!

Question:

Is poultry & fish meat?

cos i'm going to be a vegetarian... and i'm doing baby steps. i started last night. and yeah, i have no idea if they are meat. so please help me? and do you have any suggestions?

Answers:
yes, of course! if it's an animal then it's meat!

I may be wrong but I think anything with a face is considered meat.

My God are you serious? Do you think fish grow on trees? anything that moves of it's own volition is an animal.

dear, yes. like you, I was uncertain until I tried to strangle a carrot, and it did not scream. then i knew.

yeah i have a suggestion... don't eat people either cause they're meat

i guess so

Fish and birds are animals, so if you eat them, you really can't call yourself a vegetarian. They are a less dense protein than red meat, and it might be useful to use them for a few weeks as a stepping stone to lighter, all veg protein. But until you are not eating anything that ever had a pulse, you aren't a vegetarian.
I would recommend vegetarian times as a great magazine to start with. Their website is very good as well. PETA has a good area of their website for new vegetarians that might be quite helpful.
Good luck. Being vegetarian can be a much healthier way of living.

Why don't you try to plant a chicken or a trout in your garden...

Of course they are meat! Vegetarian foods are plants.. not critters. But U can drink milk or eat egg from a chicken cause no animal dies from having milk or egg, Vegans have a different perspective.. They won't eat anything or use anything that's made from animal cause they think or feel that animals are treated barbaricly in stalls and other ways just for the sake of Money! They maybe right but it's just too costly to be a healthy vegan.. When Vegan food comes down in price then I maybe a vegan. Vegetarianism is for me! See more on my 360 yahoo page!

What Exactly is a Vegetarian?
A vegetarian is someone living on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with or without the use of dairy products and eggs (preferably free-range).*

A vegetarian does not eat any meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustaceans, or slaughter by-products such as gelatine or animal fats.

Types of Vegetarian
Lacto-ovo-vegetarian- Eats both dairy products and eggs. This is the most common type of vegetarian diet.

Lacto-vegetarian - Eats dairy products but not eggs.

Vegan. Does not eat dairy products, eggs, or any other animal product.

Fruitarian - A type of vegan diet where very few processed or cooked foods are eaten. Consists mainly of raw fruit, grains and nuts. Fruitarians believe only plant foods that can be harvested without killing the plant should be eaten.

Macrobiotic- A diet followed for spiritual and philosophical reasons. Aims to maintain a balance between foods seen as ying (positive) or yang (negative). The diet progresses through ten levels, becoming increasingly restrictive. Not all levels are vegetarian, though each level gradually eliminates animal products. The highest levels eliminate fruit and vegetables, eventually reaching the level of a brown rice diet.

Other terms can be used in describing various vegetarian diets, though their exact meaning can differ. The term strict vegetarian may refer to a vegan diet, though in other cases it may simply mean a lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet. The terms common or broad vegetarian may be used to refer to lacto-ovo-vegetarians. Demi-vegetarian is a term sometimes used to describe persons who eat no or little meat but may eat fish. Persons consuming fish but no meat are sometimes called pescetarians.

umm
yes, they are still animals
however there are "vegetarians" who eat poultry and fish
they are called polo vegetarians.
However it sounds like you just jumped into this and you need to do you're research.
I personally would recommend not eating poultry and fish and here's why:

For the animals: Chickens are the most abused and disrespected animals in the meat industry, they are often thrown around and beaten and grown to be so large so rapidly their legs break under their weight and are left there to die.

For the environment: mass fishing causes serious damage to aquatic ecosystems.

For you're health: Fish contain as much and possibly more cholesterol than steak.

For your conscious: Every time, you eat a chicken or a fish, you are eating the dead dirty decomposing body of an abused scared disrespected creature. And taking a life of a creature with thoughts and feelings. And that feels pain just as much as you do.

poultry and fish are meat. however, people who call themselves vegetarians and eat seafood are actually pescetarians or vegaquarians.

once you give up the meat/dairy - (and see your doctor or a nutritionist to make sure you are getting all your nutrients) - you will feel so much better, that you won't want to eat meat again. It'll just be so much better, you'll enjoy your food more too.

At least I do - I went to a Vegan diet 4 years ago.

yes it is non veg

of course fish is meat. but it's okay to become a vegetarian slowly. it took me a few years. first no red meat then no chicken then no fish. just make sure you eat good whole foods and not processed junk. all those fake-meat soy products are not very healty to eat but they are okay as transitionary foods. eat lots of greens, and lots of beans, and lots of whole grains.

Yes, poultry & fish are meat. Also, don't forget the other little guys like the crustaceans (lobsters, shrimps, crabs, etc) and those guys in shells like clams, mussels, oysters etc. They are meat too. So no eating them.
They will appreciate it. :)

Of course they are meat...meat is another word for flesh.
