Protein doesn't only come from meat and dairy. You can also get protein from things like nuts, beans, soy protein, and tofu. There are plenty of non-animal sources! In fact, as a vegetarian, you should watch your intake of dairy. Too much dairy isn't good for you, and you'll probably put on a few pounds if you eat too much. Also, many people in developed countries like the US get TOO MUCH protein, which is bad for your body and can lead to several medical problems.
You can eat dairy if you want and still call yourself a vegetarian, but most will agree that you're not truly a vegetarian if you eat seafood--after all, it is animal flesh. If you want to eat seafood still, call yourself a pesco-vegetarian or pescitarian.
There are a few things you should avoid as a vegetarian that aren't obvious. Gelatin is one of them--it is made from hides, bones, hooves, tendons, et cetera. Don't eat Jello, and ALWAYS check your food labels before eating something. It'll become a habit after a while. Also, most things that are "flavored" like a type of meat actually contain broth or animal fat. Check the labels for this too. There are many, many more "secret" animal ingredients, but you'll probably learn about those as you go along. The list is overwhelming at first, and few people are completely free of all the lesser-known animal ingredients (I'll admit that I'm not.), so don't get yourself worked up over it. It gets much easier with time.
I recommend buying a book about vegetarianism (including information on nutrition) and maybe a vegetarian cookbook. You need to learn everything you can about diet and nutrition in order to be as healthy as possible, and a vegetarian cookbook will give you some great ideas for new food.
vegetarians eat veggies and don't eat meat.
vegan = no animal products at all
vegetarians can eat dairy, but no flesh. a real vegetarian eats no fish either, because fish is flesh. used to be a living animal. vegetarians do not eat animal flesh.
well im veggy and sum poeple do eat fish to get the protien and yes u can eat dairy products if u like see most people r veggy coz of the way the animals get killed but wiv dairy products there not dead so its ok to eat them
Wow, over a million years of evolution, your body has evolved as an omnivorous life form and you want to reinvent the wheel? Why?
It's all meat of course. Vegetarians dont eat meat at all....that is why they are called vegetarians. Protein is in everything. Healthy sources include whole grains, nuts, legumes etc.
Don't do it! You'll die young and unhealthy! You can't get the protien from anywhere else you can only get it from MEAT and only MEAT. If you have to be a vegetarian be the kind that eats seafood you need the protien. Humans naturally eat MEAT. You need MEAT!!!
it's obvious that vegetarians can never eat any fleshy products like meat (incl chickens, crabs)and fish. the idea of vegan includes to restrict any kind of animal product. but without any proteins it's difficult for a human to survive and veggies can't provide enough proteins in our body. thus to obtain those defecited protein we can take any dairy products like milk which are high in vitamins and proteins. but i must suggest you to keep atleast one dairy product on your daily routine cuz i don't think it's a good idea to depend a whole day totally on veggies. thkz
Your not a vegan so u can get dairy products you just can't eat meat!!!!!!! No if u are a vegan than u can't eat meat or dairy anything that deals with animals!!!!!!!
I have been vegetarian for going on 5 yrs. The best way to get all of your protein is by mixing cooked rice and baked or refried beans. This will give you as much protein if not more than meat. Seafood, Poultry and fish are all types of meat though they are not red/blood colored when uncooked. Starting out as a vegetarian is hard at first so take the time to let your body get used to it. If you eat the other meats besides red then you are considered a Flexitarian(Semi-Vegetarian). Just work your way up the vegetarian later to be able to get to the level of Lacto-Vegetarian. It took me about a year and a half for me to get used to being vegetarian. After that I've been going strong.
A lot of people believe that the body "cares" where proteins and other nutrients come from and get all bent out of shape about us needing protein from meat. In reality, food is broken down into nutrients which are chemical compounds that the body uses. With protein, your body further breaks down this compound into amino acids. Your cells don't distinguish between amino acids that come from a plant or an animal.
The body can not store essential amino acids, so we do need a fresh supply of them each day. In our current society, we think it's normal to eat huge quantities of meat, practically at each meal. This is not healthy for a lot of reasons, and is overloading the body with protein. A serving of meat is the size of a deck of playing cards, not a chunk of beef the size of your head.
A 150 pound person needs about 66 grams of protein a day. 4 ounces of extra lean, broiled ground beef has about 33 grams of protein, it also has about 56% of those calories in fat and about 200 calories (remember, this is extra lean and broiled; a quarter pounder with cheese has 510 calories and about 60% of the fat is saturated). On the other hand, a cup of beans contains the same amount of protein, but much less in calories and fat by about half, with the added benefit of having vitamins and fiber.
When you're weighing two sources of protein, it seems to me that the lower fat, higher in other nutrients option is the most logical - and that choice is the source from vegetables.
I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian(eats dairy and eggs) for 17 years now.
I've never been diagnosed as anemic and I get plenty of proteins as well as amino acids from eggs, cheese, beans, legumes, tofu and other meatless foods.
If you are not comfortable with omiting fish from your diet right now, that's more along the lines of being a pescotarian(out of all the animals, they will only eat seafood).
I do not eat anything that had a face and once had parents.
I have omitted all flesh from my diet completely.
No to ALL meat, including fish, seafood, etc
dairy and eggs are fine. It's only Vegans that don't eat those.
Eggs and chese will give you plenty of protien. Beans also have better protien than meat
people have a messed-up idea of protien and how much the human body needs. Just look at the food pyramid. The protien section says you need either meat OR beans, nuts, etc.
So.. if you want to fit the definiton of a "vegetarian" you may eat dairy, eggs, but no flesh of any kind (cow, pig, chicken, fish, crab, lobster,)
of course, no one can tell you what to eat. I'm just saying if you want to fit the definition of "vegetarian"
vegetarians eat anything EXCEPT meat and seafood.
Can't eat pop tarts
