So I want to become a vegetarian..?!

Question:

So I want to become a vegetarian..?

I'm Filippino & with my culture it's really hard to become vegetarian but I think that I can pull it off if I do some of my own grocery shopping. What are some things that I can eat do gain the nutrients I need? How would I set up meals? Feel free to give me any tips on tasty salads & dressings also. [=

Tons and tons of different ways to eat vegitarian. The main thing is that you need to eat more of a variety of foods than carnivores. Remember, there are 9 essential amino acids that the body needs to make protein that are not created in the body. Animal flesh has all of these amino acids together. Most fruit and veggies do not. Soybean is the only one that does. This is not bad though, you just have to mix and match different foods. Eat beans and wheats and noodles and greens and you will get all 9. You can be very health and get all of your nutrition this way. The only warning that I will give is that vit. b12 is the only nutrient that you can't get much through veggies. So buy a bottle of those. And you must eat plenty of green leafy veggies to get enough iron. Especially if you are female, you will need to get plenty of iron.
Have fun and get a few vegitarian cook books!!!
Indian food is a great choice!

why make it so hard? eat veggies

don't underestimate the power of beans. they're your friends.

i would go to whole foods, if they have that where you live. They have a wide variety of greenery and non meet foods. you could check out different websites like Vegetarian.com which is the simplest. Good Luck! Trust me, I don't like eating baby animals either! :* (

For protein, you will mostly depend on beans, chick peas, and tofu, just make yor regular meals and replace your usual meat with those foods.

I am with you. Every cow I see here in Florida makes me sick to my stomach.
I am new at this. I do know there are degrees of how much you accept. Eggs & cheese? Fish? Hoping you get some good ideas I can look into also. Thank you very much.

Variety is the key to being vegetarian. Be sure you get enough protein in the form of soy, wheat, eggs (if you're not vegan), or beans. It is also helpful to "eat the rainbow," as in, eat as many different colored fruits and vegetables as possible. As long as you're not stuck in a pasta rut for days at a time you'll be fine. :)

Tofu, cheese and beans for protein. I found I could do almost any recipe and just omit the meat.

Being a vegetarian, and getting proper nutrition is hard to do I suggest taking courses on nutrition or checking out books from the library on the subject. I grew up in a vegetarian hosehold my Mother now eats fish and chicken a little pork and no beef .I eat all meats When I worked at Whole foods Market here in Texas I met several people who had been vegetarians for years and thier doctors had ordered them to eat meat. Ask an MD or certified nutritionist thier opinion also how could you ever give up chicken adobo are you crazy

if you aregoing to be a vegetarian then go to walmart ,tom thumb are place like that and buy morning star frams it is all soy and it taste like real meat but it iss soy they have whole meal like soy bacon sasgge .all of that hope that help you out

There are so many kinds of beans and lentils, you'll never have to worry about protein deficiency. More importantly, make sure you eat your veggies, whole grains, use good quality vegetable oils for cooking and have fun experimenting with food. There are so many recipes on the internet. Try something simple first. You dont have live on salads. There are so many kinds of fruit and vegetables out there, many more than kinds of meat ppl eat, if you're not afraid to try new things you'll hardly ever have same meal again.

I have been a vegetarian/ now vegan for so long and I still find food exciting. More than I ever did as an omnivore. It's so much fun discovering new recipes. Good luck.
