PeachPie...
YOU are the one questioning nature. ALL natural meat eaters have MOUTHFULS of sharp canines, designed to tear into the tough meat, as well as tongues as their means of perspiration (as opposed to us sweating) and claws to serve as knives to "butcher" their prey. WE have tender fingers for plucking fruits from trees and pulling veggies from the ground. WE have only a few canines, designed for EMERGENCIES when PLANTS ARE SCARCE!!!! We are so woefully inadequate to slaughter animals with our own bodies (no tools) that we need chains, shackles, and knives to slaughter animals. ALSO--NATURAL carnivores kill animals THEMSELVES. Most of YOU meat-eaters PAY people to do the dirty work for you! How pathetic can you get?
Give me a thumbs down, everyone. I welcome it. What's a billion of those when I told the truth?
Oh yeah, I almost forgot--
UPS: healthy, kind to animals, good for environment (organic meat still pollutes environment with the poop from the live animal), helping defeat world hunger, humane towards immigrants (many work in slaughterhouses for minimum wages), tastier food (no, meat is NOT tasty, if you think so, your tastebuds have gone haywire), etc. etc....
DOWNS: people might not like you, your haywire tastebuds might revolt, you might spare the lives of innocent animals you may have wanted to kill...and that's about it. Meat is NOT healthy.
Edited later....
Thank you, those two wonderful people who gave me thumbs up. I know that there are people on Yahoo! message boards that do not think meat raising is inhumane but it is hard with all these trolls posting "mmm steak" and moronic stuff like that. People like you give me support. As for the one who gave me the thumbs down...I have nothing to say but you're living a sad life if you are offended by my words. They would only offend those who insist on paying others to slaughter animals for their tastebuds. Killing animals simply for taste is sooooo brutal. You guys need professional help, fast.
ups of being a vegan... you can eat broccoli.
ups of being a carnivore... you can have a steak with your broccoli.
in reality cherrie.... we are omnivores, having teeth for both plants and animals. like bears and pigs and other primates.... they also have both and do in fact eat both. true strict carnivores are the ones you are describing... besides our premolars are engineered to crush bone not asparagus.
Bein a straight carnivore is rough... You poop these bricks out your butt
I have been a vegan, but now I'm an omnivore. As a vegan, I found myself having to take a lot of supplements because I was lacking iron and protein (one can eat just so many beans and greens). I also had few choices for eating out. However, if you want to be a vegetarian (not a vegan, there is a definite difference), cheese and eggs help with the protein problems, and soy milk in either case helps with the lack of calcium and vitamin D. Also, if you go vegan, you have to look at more than just your food -- many vitamin supplements are filled with or encased in gelatin, made from animal hooves/bones, and many toilettries (especially shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste) contain animal byproducts. On an upside, your immune system may increase (lots of vitamin c in a veggie diet), skin and hair quality is great! However, always check with a medical professional before radically changing your diet, in case you need the extra iron and protein in meat (although few doctors would say don't eat your vegetables).
I have been a vegetarian all my life and the best things about it are that you you aren't harming animals and you are healthier in some ways. But the bad things are that it is harder to get enough protein. And it is harder to eat lunch at school, most of the stuff besides snacks is meat and it is more difficult to get a full lunch. You also have less food choices and there is not as much variety in your diet because there are less options of what to eat. I hope this helps! =)
PeachPie, you have canine teeth? I'd like to see how you attack animals in the wild using your speed, and then bite through their fur and skin with your canine teeth. I bet you got carnivore's intestines too, so that you can easily digest raw flesh like other carnivores. You do all that, right? otherwise you wouldnt say that all that is natural....Actually I agree... it is natural...... for lions.
one of the big, big ups for me of being a vegan is how awesome I feel. I mean really, really good. I'm not exhausted all the time, i feel that my mind is clearer, and am loosing wait. And I'm not as cranky as I was. Plus I know i'm getting healthier.
on the downs. being vegan is difficult (i've been one only a short while) is because It takes me forever in the grocery store. I have to read all the labels and I've had to learn a whole new language as far as hidden ingredients go. So that's a pain. Also my mother's cooking is defiantly not vegan, and not even very vegetarian, tho she is trying, so eating at the home of a non vegetarian is another challenge.
Despite this, I will, at any cost, continue my meat free lifestyle. After only one week it has made that much difference in my life. Thanks for the question. It was a good one.
Hugs Kyla
Being vegetarian/vegan makes you healthier, saves animal lives, boosts your self-esteem, reduces animal cruelty, lowers cholesterol and blood pressure, cuts cancer risks WAY down, and many other amazing things.
The only con? You might need vitamins to replace what you're not getting. But it's not like chewing up a Flinstones vitamin is all that hard.
Email me if you need any more info/advice (:
Upside? Better health I guess, probably not overweight either. Downside? You can't beat a fast food grease burger on a cold day.
well, the up of being a vegetarian is not feeling bad about eating animals.
the down is if you ate meat before you were a vegetarian, you kind of miss food with meat.
I eat approx. 85 to 90% vegetable matter and about 10 to 15% animal matter. I feel great, I can't remember the last time I was sick. Somedays I only eat vegan, some days I include some fish, chicken, or eggs and milk.
The ups of being vegetarian is the regularity (homeostasis) of bodily functions.
The downs is the creativity of meals needed to keep them interesting. At least this is the case for myself.
I won't call them DOWNS, but some things you might experience: You have to get used to planning meals differently - you have to relearn how to eat to get proper nutrition (or maybe learn for the first time as is usually the case) - it's not as convenient to eat at restaurants - shopping takes a little more thought - you have to read more labels - you have to educate yourself about "hidden" animal ingredients and different names of animal derived ingredients - you have to explain yourself a lot and deal with weird looks from peope like at Taco Bell when you tell them you want a damn Mexican pizza with no cheese or meat!
It is all worth it thought because as a vegetarian that eats healthfully you will...
feel healthier and cleaner, rediscover how great vegetables taste, enjoy shopping iwth new vigor, be more aware of what you put in your mouth, not have to worry about biting into a burger or taco and crunch down on gristle, you'll poop better, your skin will look better, your heart will love you more, your bad cholesterol will drop, your good cholesterol will rise, you'll become leaner, and you'll have less chance of all kinds of diseases. Going veg was the best decision I've ever made (besides marrying my guy, of course).
pro:
-----
no constipaton or hemmorhoids
less chance of food poisining
less chance of eating stuff with hormones
vegetarian food keeps longer
12 hours to digest veggies, 72 hrs to digest meat
(per Dr. Mehmet Oz on Oprah)
vegetarian food is cheaper
con
-----
people think you're weird
can't share food w/friends who eat meat
less choice in restaurants
you may not get enough iron or zinc
really have to watch it when pregnant or nursing - need to take vitamin/mineral supplements
Well when you do the research the vegan diet has been used to cure cancer, and reverse heart disease and diabetes. The meat based diet has been shown to cause all of these.
Do the research for yourself, and listen to your body. I'm sure you can be healthy on either as long as you make the point to be. If you just randomly eat whatever, you'll have problems as you age no matter whe diet you pick.
