Does chocolate go bad?
Answers:
Chocolate has a shelf-life of one year from date of production. Accounts by other answerer's to your question about white spots or molds growing on chocolate bars are indeed a sign of outdated merchandise. just look at the wrapper and it had been expired for a few months. Call the 800-numbers on the back of the candy bars to find out if your chocolate has been shelved beyond it's expiration date.Just because it's new on the shelves, doesn't mean it hasn't been in storage for a while!
it will dry out.....eventually will go bad
yep it will start turning white and crumble. Every thing except I think honey goes bad eventually.
To keep it fresh and in quality condition, store it in the freezer, covered.
Yes it does, the best by date on the product will be able to give you a better idea.
yes
yup it does. chocolate is a high fat food that is prone to oxidation. the chocolate will thus turn rancid, which will result in unpleasant off-tastes.
but the white stuff that sometimes appears on chocolate that has been kept for some time is usually harmless. it's called chocolate bloom and is just due to some de-solubilisation of compounds.
Not in my house!! it's never around long enough LOL.
yes, indeed, chocolate does go bad. be warned... it could happen to your stash!!! it is possible to burn choclate as well....
Nope never....... I saw a documentary on Discovery on a guy who was in sum war 80 years ago and kept his buddys harmonica case after he was shot and never opened it till now....he found out there was a chocolate in there instead of a harmonica......so I guess if its well preserved it can last for ever
