Their competition is the faucet.
Because they are imported Evian (Naive) from France and San Pelligrino from Southern Italy, but the prices are coming down 2 litres of Evian is approx 0.96p in UK.
Because there is a sucker born every minute!
They're imported. They're bottled in expensive glass bottles, then shipped over.
It's in line with all "premium" products - high end cars, name brand clothing, "first class tickets", front row seats, JC Penny/Marshalls/Mervyns vs. Macy's/Nordstrom/Sacks 5th Ave. Status, and to a small degree, taste in this case.
Buy San Pellegrino at Trader Joe's, it is around 1.19 a bottle.
Remember it is also imported from Italy.
Evian and San Pellegrino are special mineral waters. Evian comes from the famous spring in France near Lac Leman or lake Geneva to the Swiss. They are trendy, they are chic and they are supposed to be good for you and taste better if you have a sensitive and trained palate. That is why they cost more. A car is a car, but why does a Lincoln Continental or Rolls Royce cost more than a Hyundai from Korea? They are all cars but....There is your answer.
