I didn't think it was possible until I read a little at Wikipedia.

take the same drug they give heroin users (no joke).
well probably not... but just get rid or any source of chockolate at your home and have someone buy your groceries for you and avoid all chockolate
Every time you eat chocolate you risk causing endorphin release, which will cause you to want to eat more, even if you do not want to and certainly do not need to. You become addicted to these chemicals and to the foods which contain them. Most of all you become addicted to the way you feel when you eat it.
"What chocolate offenders have taught us is that the chemical in cocoa beans has a biochemical effect similar to aspirin in reducing platelet clumping, which can be fatal if a clot forms and blocks a blood vessel, causing a heart attack,"
Anyone can develop an addiction to a substance besides drugs and alcohol. If your eating chocolate is making you think about it all the time, making it so that you don't eat right or mainly eat junkfood, i.e. chocolate, making you obsess to where it controls a large part of your day, or if it affects your social and work life, then you have an addiction.
As for a solution to your addiction try what smokers do. Get a calender and write on the calender that you will allow yourself one candy bar a day for two weeks. Then go down to one candy bar every other day. Do that for a week. Then go down to where you are eating a candy bar twice a week. Do this for a week. Then pick one day that you will allow yourself to eat a candy bar. Write this down on the calender and then write a note to yourself telling you that you are not going to eat any kind of candy, because alot of times people will give up one addiction for another. So set some boundaries for yourself. After going through all of this you will end up where you can have one piece of chocolate or candy bar a week. No cake, ice cream, chocolate syrup, easter candy, nothing. Set strong boundaries for yourself.
you can become addicted to anything! take slow steps to overcome it....associate chocolate with something disgusting-like when your eating it or thinking about it, think instead, of licking a toliet bowl. sounds funny, but it works!
You could have a mental addiction to chocolate. There is nothing in chocolate that would cause you to be addicted to it, but if you have caused yourself to believe you need it, you may have formed an emotional attachment to it.
Lol If there is not an addiction then I MUST BE CRAZY!!!!!
I luv chocolate!!! I guess you could invent then anti-chocolate patch lol!
Try searching some health sites or sumtin!!!
I seem to crave..I mean I would nearly jump hoops for it right before my monthly..you know...I guess it has to do with hormones. I suppose as anything, chocolate can be addictive. I do know I crave it . I would not doubt that we are alone. I think alot of women crave chocolate. I guess the only thing you can do to "overcome" your craving is just like any substance...MIND OVER MATTER!
Anything that makes a person feel good, can be addictive.
The chocolates makes the brain to release the same hormones as "falling in love" would do.
However it is not a dangerous addiction.
You may get fat, because of sugar and fat added to chocolate products, but if you consume just dark "bitter" chocolate, without fat or sugars, but mostly cocoa, then go ahead, indulger, and "fall in love" with it.
At least you will be safe from STDs.
You can get addicted to anything, its to do with the mind more than the body
WILL POWER
Well...supposedly chocolate causes seratonin to release in your brain...which could create the sensation of addiction, then there's also a bodily habit where your body craves whatever it is accustomed to getting.
The way to break this is to just plain be disciplined and not eat chocolate. At all. For about three to four months. Try switching to something else, like a piece of fruit or small handful of dried fruit when you get that craving. It will take 10-12 weeks of substituting the new, chosen behavior for the old habit before the new behavior feels 'comfortable' and 'right'. Then, beleive it or not, if you eat the chocolate it will feel 'wrong'. But you'll still have to be disciplined to make your new, chosen habits stick.
I've actually done this, many times. I used to be so junked up after all the holiday eating that I would go off coffee, sugar, alcohol, red meat and sometimes milk products starting January 1 of each year. After the end of march I would slowly start letting myself eat some of the above occasionally, then by the end of the next holiday season I'd be ready to break off again. It was a great exersize in self discipline, I don't do this regularly anymore, I try to keep a better grip on my consumption over the holidays so I don't get so stressed and junked up.
People can be addicted to food. You might try hypnosis to overcome it. Or you can tell yourself over and over again that chocolate is bad for you it might stick.
Yes there is because chocolate produces serotonin in the brain that causes pleasure, so anything that's pleasurable is addicting. Anyway, how to overcome it? I don't know, I just outgrow mine. I used to eat chocolates in great amounts but now I can't even stand the sight og it LOL.
Part of the pleasure of eating chocolate is due to the fact that its melting point is slightly below human body temperature: it melts in the mouth. Chocolate intake has been linked with release of serotonin in the brain, which is thought to produce feelings of pleasure― an effect similar to that of opiates.
Not only that, but it also contains caffeine, another addictive substance. Less than coffee or tea, thank goodness!
But most of all, it contains sugar (unless you happen to enjoy bitter unsweetened), which is the most addictive substance on the planet. The book "Sugar Blues" says virtually everybody has acquired this addiction by the time we are 18 months old.
Nothin' like a good ol' fashioned triple whammy, hmm?
Ahh well, being a hardcore mainliner chocoholic myself... I'd say just go with it. It's certainly the most acceptable of any addiction, besides maybe shoe shopping. Just do exercise some will power and take it in moderation like anything else. If you really want to quit, you'd probably have to give up sugar altogether. Search the www and get an ayurvedic herb called "gymnema sylvestra" or brand name "Gurmar". Zillions of sales sites these days. Within a couple of weeks you won't even be able to taste sugar and it's easy to kick when only healthy foods taste good.
BTW, two of the other most addictive substances - alcohol and cigarettes - have a huge amount of sugar in them.
Have more sex to replace it.
yes there is some addiction to chocolate and it is mainly caused by the amounts of processed sugars in chocolate. the cocoa in chocolate is actually healthy for you, but in white chocolate there's minimal cocoa... what i suggest is get used to eating dark chocolates--it is healthier and contains lesser sugars... the higher percentage of cocoa the better, but mind the bitterness :)
