Do Americans prefer your chocolate to ours in England?!

Question:

Do Americans prefer your chocolate to ours in England?

Not wanting to upset my American friends but your chocolate Hershes is really minging. Why is it so different from ours? For anyone who has tried Cadburys - did you like it or do you equally hate the taste of ours?

I didn't want to offend anyone, I'm sorry if I did, it wasn't my intention.

I think Belgium chocolate or Swiss chocolate is the best in the world. I used Cadburys just as a comparison because that's the chocolate we eat most here.

I was genuinely interested in whether you prefer your own.

I work for a technology company that has offices scattered around the globe. I love it when someone has to go to Europe for business because they almost always bring chocolate back with them!
My opinion is that American chocolate has too much paraffin (wax) in it. The paraffin helps it to not melt in the heat and gives it a snap when it's broken. In my mind, that's not what chocolate is about, chocolate should be soft and rich and not too sweet.
I rarely eat American chocolate but I'll eat European chocolate whenever I can get it! :-)

cadbury is superior to hersheys... we're american not completely retarded

I like Cadbury better than Hershey

I'll take the chocolate from Germany any day over U.S. or England!

I love Cadburys and I love Hersheys.

Not to be too obtuse here, but are you saying Cadburys is English? Guess I've never looked at the label. I don't care, I eat both. But Cadburys with carmel is to die for, I must admit.

i loooooooove cadbury creme eggs

When I ate milk chocolate, I always ate Cadbury's or Ghirardelli (a San Francisco chocolate maker) ... but now I eat only 'dark chocolate' and find that I can't get 'good chocolates' at any other than 'specialty chocolate shops.' I agree with you that Hershey's is minging ... and I wish we could get a good Cadbury bar in dark chocolate here ... oh, well ... I guess I'm 'stuck' with either Ghirardelli's 'fancy dark chocolates,' or from specialty stores, but only FOR NOW because EVERYONE is getting on the 'dark chocolate bandwagon' and soon I hope that even Cadbury will have some, too.

the discerning palette will always reject both,in favour of any dark chocolate varieties.

I think Americans just love chocolate in general. Cadbury's tastes fine, but I don't like some of the things they do with it, for example, the cadbury eggs. They are way too sweet. I often buy chocolate at the European market and I love the columbian dark chocolate with little bits of coffee in it. MMM! I don't know if another chocolate that I like is German or Polish, I can't read the label as it's in that language, but it's pretty good too.

It's not an offending question to me. Hershey's is considered rather inexpensive chocolate here in the U.S. Try Ghiradelli chocolate. Made in San Francisco and is nicely flavored and dense. We can also buy it for cooking in the U.S.

Cadbury's is OK. Not much around any other time of the year except Easter. I think Cadbury's is now owned by Hershey.....

I like both - Cadbury's is better quality, but Hershey's come in a wider variety of flavours. And yes, Cadbury's is English, made in Bournville, Birmingham. That's Birmingham in England =] And minging means disgusting or gross! x

Well now, Figgy 16 let me tell you that in New Zealand and Australia the Cadbury's product is, in my opinion, not so good as the same product produced in Europe. Though they have a much wider range.

But in Europe, Cadburys is only one brand and not so great I think. Mainland Europeans seem to produce more tasty stuff than the Bourneville crew. To try European quality you could do no better than buy confectionery from a store like LIDL. They have very good quality stuff and at excellent prices.

Now, where's the cookie jar?

Having had chocolate from both places, I got to say I like the chocolate in England. I guess it's just different ingredients. Also, some of the chocoloate over here gives me a burning sensation in the back of my throat...weird. German chocolate is even better than England's.

Cadbury is better. Hershey is not really an American chocolate anymore since they are in the process of closing their plants and sending the down to mexico. So they will be come the Great mexican Chocolate.

I agree witht the poster above me German chocolate is really good. I prefer a Ritter Cornflake bar or Alpine milk bar over all !

No I do not prefer my own I prefer European Chocolate.

I have tried American chocolate before and it didn't do it for me I'm afraid, check out Lindt Lindor (red ones) they melt in your month! x
