I think it's the aroma and the taste. sometimes I just smell the coffee beans and my eyes open up. It seems to make the mind sharper and decreases appetite with a nice smooth buzz. I love it!!
Prior to Starbucks it was because it was everywhere, it had caffeine and was typically free or cheap. Post Starbucks I think it has to do with cocaine lacing or something.
1.- Because it is good.
2.- If you need to stay awake at night it can help.
3.- If you are cold in winter a Hot cup of coffee will help.
i never used to drink it but since i work the late night 11pm-8am 6days a week i need one cup every night does me good .......
Probably because it contains caffeine which gives an energy boost. Once people start having caffeine everyday, they'll feel the need of the caffeine for the energy and make a habit. Also because coffee tastes pretty good with milk and sugar.
If you don't like the taste of it, then obviously it wouldn't make sense to you that so many people love coffee, but a lot of people love the taste. There are a lot of different types of coffee and a lot of ways to prepare it (relating to how strongly it is brewed, whether milk is added and if so how much, whether any flavor is added, etc.), so not all cups of coffee are created equal.
The caffiene boost is obviously a big perk as well, and a lot of people have taken to drinking coffee for social reasons- coffee houses are popular places to socialize.
