It seems like it's the flavor combined with the "crushed" or "slivers" of ice melting as they go down your throat. It always makes me cough and that's the only thing I can think of.

they make you cough cuz your not used to brathing in really cold air its the same way with me at the begining of winter.

Sort of makes your throat sore, and itchy.
