How do I make a good cup of coffee when camping?!

Question:

How do I make a good cup of coffee when camping?

I've tried those darn percolator pots and the little instant coffee bags and still can't get a decent cup of coffee when I'm out camping. Any ideas?

My father used to carry a French Press with him. It's a miniature coffee pot with a plunger/filter in it. They work quite well. Personally, I just boil water and dump grounds in it and then let it seep for a few minutes. Bring a filter with you (either paper or one of those reusable filter screens) and simply pour it through your filter/screen into the cup. Pouring a couple of spoonfuls of cold water into the boiled coffee helps the grounds settle so that you dont need a filter, but that never worked very well for me.

Put the grounds right in the water...boil until desired strength...poor carefully because of the grounds.

bring your own coffee pot from home because even though its camping there's nothing like early morning and good coffee

Last year I bought a coffee maker that you can put right on a propane stove. It was only like 40$ at Walmart and it makes great coffee. So thats an idea if you already have a propane stove- if not than try a french press.

Best coffee I ever had was in Greece. I finally asked someone there how they make their coffee so good.
They told me it was actually Nescafe crystals with a touch of evaporated milk.

That's all you need apart from the hot water.

well honestly you really cant have the perfect coffee on a camping trip. your best move would to be to bring a little cooking stove and your own coffee pot and some coffee gran bags that they sell at target and walmart and places like that, for camping. and hope for the best.

good luck

Nescafe makes a new kind of instant crystals, single serving.
Also, try purchasing a bottle of espresso, for the extra strength coffee you enjoy. Those old fashioned coffee pots for 4 to 6 cups with the stand in coffee grounds holder may work over a campfire, with a screen as the trivet, they don't cost much. If it holds up you can reuse it, or buy a used one, thank you.

I recommend an inexpensive coffee press to throw in with your camping gear. Coffee presses make the best coffee whether you are camping or not.

All you have to do is boil water (in your camping pot or tea kettle) and pour it over the coffee grounds in the press, stir, wait approximately 5 minutes then ... press. Yum!! Always perfect coffee.

"Bialetti" makes a stovetop moka coffee maker that works beautifully for camping.
Thats what I've used for years on my gas powered camping stove. They have many different sizes as well.

You wont regret it.

Some mentioned "French Press" (aka Bodum). They work well also but most are made with glass. If you can find a non-glass Bodum, then that would be good.

Start with good beans, that are fresh roasted. I personally home roast my coffee beans. Buy a good stainless steel moka pot. It is an Italian stove top coffee maker. It is going to make an almost espresso style coffee. Otherwise you can heat the water and use a French Press, or pour through a cone filter.
