The best fluid for any person is mineral water. get a good mineral water. Avoid energy drinks since they contain high amounts of caffeine. Caffeine is a dehydrating substance and will cause you to dry up and will burn your energy even while at rest since it is a stimulant. Keeping yourself well hydrated always is the key to keeping yourself fit. Depending on where you live, take about 8-10 glasses of water. Best way to do is as follows: Take 2 8-ounces water upon waking up in the morning, 8 oz 30 mins before meals, 8 oz 2 and a half hrs after meals, 16 oz at bedtime. Take 8 oz after every 30 mins of exercise. Half hr before the competition, take 8 oz. The best indicator of whether you are properly hydrated or not is the color of your first urine in the morning. It should be very light yellow. As to food, take anything of your choice. Just avoid junk foods specifically processed foods, sugary foods, and other caffeine containing substances like coffee, tea, sodas, chocolates and also alcoholic beverages.

Part of my knowledge

red bull contains vitamins, amino acids and only as much caffeine as a cup of coffee.
most importantly, drink lots of water to keep your body hydrated.
foods such as anything baked, boiled or broiled for protein and not a lot of empty calories

Gatorade, water, powerade, etc. But don't have a pop unless your done with all your events. I'm in track also. What i take for food is usually granola bars. I take some sunflower seeds. If you have like an hour or two before your event you could eat like a hot dog or a pickle or something, just to tie you over till your finished.
