Does hot chocolate have caffeine?!

Question:

Does hot chocolate have caffeine?

My doctor says I have gastritis and I cannot have caffeine.
I know that regular chocolate has caffeine, but what about the drink?

Answers:
yes

Hot chocolate does not contain caffeine so its safe to drink hot or cold

YES! Chocolate has caffeine in it.

Very, very minimal....probably less than 4 mg. I wouldn't worry about it. I am caffeine sensitive and I drink it.

No it doesn't. Just coffee and most sodas. But you can purchase decaf or caffeine free coffee and sodas at Walmart. My husband and I haven't had caffeine for about 2 years. The caffene free coke tastes like the one with caffeine. So don't worry about taste.

yes if it is made from chocolate it has caffeine

Here's a comparative list:

"WHAT PRODUCTS CONTAIN CAFFEINE AND HOW MUCH?
Milligrams of Caffeine

Brewed, drip method 85, 65-120
Instant 75, 60-85
Decaffeinated 3, 2-4
Espresso (1 oz. cup) 40, 30-50
Teas (8-oz. cup)

Brewed, major U.S. brands 40, 20-90
Brewed, imported brands 60, 25-110
Instant 28, 24-31
Iced (8-oz. glass) 25, 9-50
Some soft drinks (8 oz.) 24, 20-40

It has caffeine, but chocolate contains very little. There is more caffeine in a cup of decaffinated coffee than in your average chocolate bar. So you should maybe double check with your doctor if trace amounts are harmful, or if it's just full doses.

yes , look at the ingredients list and you'll find cocoa. but there are other products available that has a label of Decaffeinated like choco drinks and coffee

Chocolate, dark, bittersweet, semi-sweet
(1 oz.) 20 mg

The drink:
Cocoa or Hot Chocolate
8 ounces 5 mg
