Is it possible to make a smoothie without using the actual fruits?
I know this sounds really stupid, but I want to make a smoothie and the only fruits I have are apples and oranges, and I don't think they're smoothieish fruits. Is it possible to make one using juices, yoghurts, milk, etc. or would that just be really weird? If it is possible, what should I use and how?
Answers:
3 tbsp Peanut Butter (OR 3 tbsp peanuts and 2 tspn palm / olive oil)
1 apple or 2 bananas
200ml cows milk or 200ml Rice milk
200ml Natural Live yoghurt
Peel and slice the apple. Blend the Rice Milk with the applle until smooth then add the yoghurt and Peanut butter (or peanuts and oil) until the peanut butter is well blended and the thickness is to your taste (add ice to thicken the smoothie up).
This is one of the simplest, most tasty and popular smoothie recipes around and uses the tried and tested combination of peanut butter and banana (reported to be Elvis' favourite sandwich filling). You can make your own peanut butter if you want (if you can get hold of raw peanuts then do so as they have a better nutritional content than roasted peanuts). Peanut butter is not just for sandwiches, in fact it tastes great with a number of different healthy foods including banana, celery and apples. It is commonly used as a 'dip' for crudite.
This smoothie recipe contains good amounts of protein which is found in the yoghurt, peanuts and cows milk. Protein is essential for growth and repair of the bodies tissues. Bananas are a good source of potassium, calcium and phosphorus which help to convert energy into a useable form. The live yoghurt helps digestion and contains good bacteria that will colonise the gut wall and help protect against stomach bugs. There is no fruit juice in this peanut butter smoothie recipe as juice doesn't tend to mix well with peanut butter.
AND
4 cups nonfat vanilla frozen yogurt / OR
Vanilla yougurt and 2 cups of ice
3 cups lowfat milk
1 cup frozen orange juice concentrate / OR the 3 oranges seeded and peeled.
Combine all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth
You could buy some frozen fruits like raspberries, blueberries, cranberries.
I think berries and bananas work best in a smoothie but you could try making one with what you have, it might taste plain gross or delicious.
Good luck :-)
I don't think a smoothie would be good with just those particular ingredients.
If you wish to use up the apples and oranges then I have a suggestion:
Make your own juice with a juicer.
yes i used to work in a juice bar and this is how we made our smoothies ( btw oranges are good for smoothies)
ice, frozen yogurt, fruit (optional use ur oranges),juices: pinapple, orange, honywater was good also to give it some sweetness
You can make a great fruit whip with those ingredients. Chop and peel two to three apples and add the juice of one to two oranges and just whiz up in a blender. You can add some yoghurt to thicken and make it more creamy. If you have a banana or other fruit or frozen berries available (or even some fresh mint), it's even better!
yer yogats
It would be kinda weird without the fruit though, kind of defeats the point, but I guess if you have fruity yoghurt then it would still taste the same. You wont be able to tell cos its all just gonna get blended up anyway!
the best fruit to use is a banana as it thickens the smoothie and err...smoothes it! lol but if u don't have that then definitely use the apples, cut into quarters and remove pips. add some fruit juices (you cut either cut up or juice the orange) and throw them in...frozen things like berries work even better than ice if u want it cold.
milk and yoghurt only work well with some things, i wouldnt have said apples but u never know until u try!
the other alternative is to create a carrot and apple with ginger smoothie (if u have them) it packs a pretty powerful punch!!
hope you might make some sense from my madness!!
no you can use just about anything to sustitute fruits you can use the oranges and milk and make a dream sickle smoothie and if you have vanilla icecream add some of that too
this has happened to me before but yeah u can use yogurt, milk, and juice and it actually comes out tasting good u could also cut up the orange into pieces and use that too. oooorrr u can just go to the store but whatever
I'm not positve, but I don't think so.
you can do strawberry banana milkshake...
put the starwberry syrup in hte blender then the bananas....1 scoop of vanila icecream...milk....and sugar to taste....
