What is considered a "serving" of fruit or vegetables?!

Question:

What is considered a "serving" of fruit or vegetables?

My benefits program at work is giving me points for eating 5 servings of fruit or veggies. How much is a serving?

Answers: This website will break it down for you:

http://www.5aday.com/html/consumers/serv... 1/2 cup 12 0000 apples n no SAUCE!!! Depends on the fruit...it's usually by a certain amount or by cups. Usually it's 1/2 cup, densely packed, without a lot of gaps for air, and without rind or pit or whatever other parts you don't eat.

For fruit you eat from the hand, one small anything (apple, orange, pear, banana) is about 1 1/2 servings. http://www.fao.org/english/newsroom/focu... since you're supposed to hav 3 or so servings of fruits or vegetables a day, i would say somewhere around a cup. rule of thumb is your dinner plate is supposed to be 1/3 vegetables. in any case, the more fruits and vegetables, the better! All you can eat if it's fresh fruit or veggies. 1/2 cup if it comes from a can with all the sodium and sugar that's added. a serving is the same as a small coffee cup or 8 oz.
