Have you ever tried elk meat? If so, do you like it?!

Question:

Have you ever tried elk meat? If so, do you like it?

I come from Montana, and we LOVE elk meat. I know people from our state can't be the only ones that like it, so I just want to see all the kinds of people that like it as well. MMMmmm!

Answers: I'm originally from Northern Michigan, with a friend who hunted in your state often. So I have had elk, among some of the wild meats I've eaten. I'm also a cook by trade and have cooked elk, deer(white-tail), bear, rabbit, porcupine, beaver, squirrel, turtle, several types of fish, partridge, wild turkey, duck, goose and even frog legs.
I found I can buy elk meat in the stores here in Minnesota along with buffalo and both are quite good. Preparation is key in cooking great game and sometimes patience is a great factor in cooking some cuts of wild meat.
People who are meat eaters should try game food at least once in their lives to appreciate what nature has to offer.
I hope good game management and the emergence of game farms can allow this to happen well into the future and beyond.
Did I mention Elk Stew is one of my favorites,...YUM :o) No but I have had dear meat, lol surprisingly it was good! It all pends on the CHEF! Yes! I lived in Colorado for seven years, and as in Montana, there are lots of folks who hunt and sell elk, deer, and even bison! Elk is very flavorful - I particularly like it made into sausage :-) Im from Idaho and i love Elk Meat. I feel its the best meat you can eat. The flavor is really good and its really healthy. I've had elk steak, elk roast, and elk burgers. All were pretty good. I was raised in Utah where elk was scarce. Then I moved to Wyoming where they are plentiful. It is my favorite wild game meat.
