Bananas???!
Bananas???
Anyone know of a way to keep bananas from getting too ripe too fast? I put them on a banana hanger and they always get too sweet and mushy so fast. I tried to put them in the refrigerator and they just stayed green and hard but with brown peels. what can i do?
Answers: i'm a banana lover and here's what i do. i put the banana in a cool temperature room until it's ripen then tranfer it into the refrigerator. it would darken the skin however, but it won't affect the fruit on the inside... I like to peel a couple and put them in a zip lock bag individually in the freezer. They stay around for quite awhile and are so tasty when you take them out and eat them! I agree w/ doublej......Take the peels off, freeze them, and then when you're ready for them, let them sit out on the counter for about an hour to defrost. I only buy a few at a time because I hate throwing them out, but you could also make banana bread with the ones that have turned brown/black! :) keep them on a bannana hanger and keep them in a cool place out of the sun. I keep mine hung up in the back room, which is generally dark and cold as there is no heating in there. Also try make sure that they are well aerated as this slows down the ripening process
