How is "Rooibos" tea pronounced? And what does it taste like?
Answers: It's pronounced roo-bee-us. It's great. I like the Kolhari Reserve, it comes in many different flavors. It's a milder than regular tea, it needs very little if any sweetener. My old manager used to drink it, she was from SA and she pronounced it Roy Boss. I never tasted it, but it smelt like a v strong savoury herbal tea. I pronounce it "roo boos". I have some that is vanilla pear flavored and I love it. It is usually sold flavored in different ways, and tends to take on whatever flavor that is. I've never had it plain. Rather call it "red bush" because that is what the words mean, pronounced with a rolling R that progresses in to an O and an I, which is most uncommon in English.
It has a very distinctive taste that smacks of sweet herbs instead of spicy herbs.
A very popular tea in South Africa it is not a tea at all, but the leaves from a common shrub that grows there in the wild.
