Does putting food in the refrigeratior when it's still hot really make you sick once you eat it?
I've always wondered... a friend of mine once told me that putting food that's fairly well above room temperature will make you sick and possibly give you food poison. Is this true, or even possible? Please be as concise in your answer as possible!
Answers: Wrong, it is exactly the opposite. Not refridgerating foods quickly enough can make you sick.
You should put food in the fridge immediatly after serving. The trick is to cool the hot food down quickly. To do this do not put it in a big container like a bowl of stew in a large casserole dish. You should pour it into something shallow (no more the 4 inches deep) until it has properly cooled, then you can transfer it to a casserole bowl. Or break it up into several smaller bowls to cool quickly. The fridge should be maintained at under 40 degrees.

In Washington State, anyone who handles foods has to go to a 4 hour food safety class & get certification every few years. Grocery baggers, waitresses, restaurant workers, fast food, day cares etc. The only food I have heard of doing that is beans. If they cool too fast the sour. No other food does this that I know of. no, but not good for freg. I've heard that your not supposed to... but i dont know why. I dont always refridgerate food- i still eat it and im fine! So refridgerating it too soon probably isnt taht big of a deal........ Yes the food doesn't have enough time to cool down properly, basically the outside gets cool while the inside remains warm for several hours later.bacteria grows between 40 F and 141 F your food has to get below 70 F in two hours for you to be able to properly cool it down. and that's internal temp on all In my opinion this is not strictly true, certainly food put in the fridge too hot will warm the fridge up causing an increase in bacteria which can then spread into the other food, but there again....how many times have I put things in the fridge before properly cooling??? (too many times to mention), have I ever had food poisoning from my own fridge....no!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is always wise to let your food cool before putting it the refrigerator. However I have never become sick from eating food that was not cooled completely. If you are worried about it you could always use an ice bath to lower the temp quickly. Simply place the product in the container you are using for storage, and float in a mixture of Ice and H2O. This will rapidly cool the product for storage.
