Is there a difference between sugar free and no sugar added?!

Question:

Is there a difference between sugar free and no sugar added?

I go to the store and when I look at ice cream, some say sugar free and others say no sugar added.

Answers: Yes. Sugar free means that the product literally has no sugar at all in it. No sugar added means that the product still has sugar in it but it is only natural sugar, wihout any added sweetners. Hope I helped!!! Source(s):
=) A sugar free product contains less than .5 grams of sugar per serving. The status of sugar free is very hard to attain especially due to the natural sugars contained in many ingredients. A no sugar added products does not have any sugar added to the product. It only contains sugar from the natural sugars contained in the ingredients in the product. Yes. There is a big difference.

When something is "sugar free" there is absolutely no sugar in that product. This is when you will find artificial sweeteners, like in Coke Zero or sugar free candies.

When there is "no sugar added" there is usually natural sugar contained in the food, like glucose which comes naturally in fruit. Lactose, which is naturally in dairy, is also considered a sugar.

When watching sugar intake, if you have diabetes or other dietary restrictions, it is important to read the labels. Normally in the US there are sugar counts in the nutritional amounts. If not than you must pay attention to the ingredients listing. yep sugar free = no sugar
no sugar added= there is sugar but nothing they added
