What foods are considered gluten?

http://www.glutenfreeinfo.com/diet/glute... Gluten is the protein found in wheat. Similar proteins which are harmful to Coeliacs are present in rye, barley and possibly oats. Gluten isn't a food, it is an ingredient. foods aren't really considered as being gluten. Gluten is a substance used in foods so its a kinda tricky question. So anything that has gluten written on the back ingredients will be a product containing gluten gluten is a by product of wheat , barley ,and oats

its what makes wheat flour become bound together when you cook with it

so anything that contains wheat , barley ,and some oats will have gluten in them

so someone who is gluten intolerant must avoid any product that contains wheat, barley , oat

its called Celiac disease ......pronounced ...sell e ak

B. ....as cister has previously stated it is those products that contain wheat eg flour, some emulsifiers etc. Celiacs do not break down these products in their system correctly and can get sick so they need to avoid them. Read the label of the products and visit a web site that gives you a comprehensive list of items that are considered to contain gluten. Gluten is a mixture of plant proteins occurring in cereal grains, chiefly corn and wheat, used as an adhesive and as a flour substitute.

So, its like when you take a paste of corn used to stick the ingredients of something together. I would think a tortilla would constitute a gluten, considering its a paste of corn (for a corn tortilla) or flour (for a flour tortilla).

Most glutens are just part of the process of making the food, but dont constitute the final product. (There arent many foods you eat that consist of a gluey paste of corn. But may use it to hold everything together till the final product is created by cooking the mixture.)

Hope that helps. anything with wheat....
my aunt stopped eating wheat and it has helped her fibromalgia tremendously :] this website has a list of items that are gluten there are many listed Gluten is a protein in wheat, rye and barley. Oats are actually gluten free but because of cross contamination they are avoided unless raised and harvested in a glutenf ree field by a gluten free company.

The list is quite extensive on what to avoid so I'll direct u to the sites.
