Is it proper to separate just a few bananas from the bunch at the grocery store?
Odd question, I know; however, I am so sick of wasting bananas. If I buy the whole bunch, I end up throwing 3/4 of it away.
Can I just separate the two or three bananas that I want and leave behind the rest of the bunch? Will it cause them to "go bad" more quickly? Is it rude? Your opinion is appreciated. :)

But, will they go bad more quickly? It seems like they do... I don't think there are any "written in stone" rules about it, but since bananas are sold by the pound, it's perfectly OK to remove even one banana from a bunch. If I'm preparing a recipe that calls for "X-number" of bananas, I'll go and buy just that number. I might buy one extra, just to eat right away.
At my supermarket, there is ALWAYS a pile of single bananas (same price per pound as the whole bunches), for people who just want a quick snack. I take the number I want,if that means breaking up a bunch,so be it I think it's fine and it makes a whole lot of sense to buy only what you know you'll need. You'll save money too.
If they're loose just break off yours and put the remainder back.
However, if the bananas are in packaging, leave them as they are. That is perfectly ok. They are not "packaged" in a certain way. You pay by amount/weight. Pick what you want. why not theyre usually sold by the pound Yes, it's ok. I do it all the time at my store. Hopefully your store can recognize that not all people want an entire bunch. I do it all the time. I figure it's best to take what you need instead of wasting money getting food you don't want. I don't think it's rude at all. Of course it is ok. You are paying by the pound, only take what you want. Thats why there are 20 Bags of potaotes, 10 LB bag, & 5 pounds bags and single pototoes. Some people have a big family, or eat a lot of potatoes. Some people are single and don't need that many, so they only buy a couple of potatoes. Same for any fruit or vegetable. Just buy what you need. One or a dozen! Your paying for it.
