Is craving something a sign you need it?!

Question:

Is craving something a sign you need it?

Every so often, I crave particular foods. They are often really bizarre, and are not always something I would eat on a regular basis - for example recently I have craved sheep's cheese, green peppers, strawberries and - very bizarrely because I don't even like it - celery. I've had these cravings for particular foods for as long as I can remember. Sometimes they go away after I've eaten, sometimes they don't and I have to go and buy some whatever.

I'm not pregnant, and I tend to eat very healthily. Does anyone else experience bizarre cravings like these? And do you think that the body might be trying to tell you something - like the way that you crave rich sugary foods when you're really hungry?

Answers:

I think if anything, your body might just be telling you that you need more variety and it's pointing you in a certain direction. Certain foods that I get cravings for can be quelled by other foods in the same group - like if I get a craving for green peppers a salad, even without peppers, can help. Just make sure you get a variety of foods and you should be fine.
