How much dry ice should I buy, to keep already frozen foods, frozen for 2 weeks?!

Question:

How much dry ice should I buy, to keep already frozen foods, frozen for 2 weeks?

We're going camping for 2 weeks and I need to keep some food frozen until the beginning of the second week. I'm taking 20#'s of ribs, two foil pans of a potato casserole, and one frozen lasagna. The food will already be frozen solid, and we'll keep the cooler in the air conditioned trailer. I have a Coleman Extreme cooler. (The very large one, so room shouldn't be a problem) Thanks everyone.

Answers:

Dry ice will stay dry ice [cold] until exposed to air. That is when you see the wispy smoke coming from it. I think if you wrap, in foil and then newspaper the dry ice should be good. If you can get a 1 inch thick layer of Styrofoam to put on the bottom of your ice chest to protect it from freezing would be good. Then layer with the dry ice. Since you didn't give the dimensions of your cooler I can't help with the amount but I think if you go to a ice processing
plant they might be able to help you with that.
BE SURE to wear gloves when handling that stuff as it will freeze your flesh. It is made from
a gas so you know it is colder than cold. When we were kids we would put a tiny speck on a medel spoon just to hear it ring from the cold.
Be careful & enjoy your trip ...
