Why does ice melt when you put alcohol on it if the alcohol came out of the same freezer??!

Question:

Why does ice melt when you put alcohol on it if the alcohol came out of the same freezer??

I take my Wild Turkey out of the same freezer as my ice trays. When I pour the turkey over the ice the ice melts. They came out of the same place shouldnt they be the same temp?

Answers:

Adding alcohol, or salt for that matter, will lower the freezing point of the ice. Therefore, since the freezing point of the ice is now lowered than the -6c or so it's kept at... it will start to melt.

The freezing point of a litre of pure water will decrease by -1.5c for every mole of foreign matter introduced into it...
