I want to frost a cake like this

how?

Answers:

It takes some practise but it's not impossible. First, use a spoon and put a blob of icing on the cake, then use a wide knife/spreader (like this: http://www.lnt.com/sm-zyliss-11-and-034-... to spread the icing out, in a motion like you're drawing the letter 's' or a figure eight but stopped short. You should end up with a sort of fish scale effect like the picture shoes. Repeat until the cake is covered.

Basically, you want to be pushing the icing and stopping (to get the edge of the 'wave'), then pushing another glob icing and stopping, etc.

It's quite hard to explain without physically demonstrating it, unfortunately.
