Well, that is an interesting/funny question, LOL!
And it is a little tricky!
Yes it is Possible, and they Can, but it does not means that it is Good or that they Should.
Since these animals are farmed, it is the farmers responsibility to ensure the animals are fed properly and have access to good food. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Sometimes intentionally, due to greed, and at other times unkowingly, out of ignorance or by sheer accident.
While not all foods create disease/disaster,i.e. Mad cow disease, why not aim to feed animals a "proper" diet. Why risk it?!
I have heard of a farmer feeding dairy cows expired candy, like gummyworms, etc. because he got it in bulk and it was a cheap way to raise their calorie intake! And a lot of those lollies contain gelatin, which is animal derived....
I have seen hungry cattle chew on just about anything, including fencing "tape" which has wires in it, and they are usually smart enough to not eat plants which are poisonous to them, but not Always! So yes, I believe they would eat just about anything, so it is vital to prevent these accidental ingestions by running a safe and tidy farm....
