When shocked about eating Peanut butter and jelly in the US, is it because jelly means gelatin?
I've seen the question asked "Do you really eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches?" directed toward us in the U.S. people seemed to be shocked.
But i was wondering if the reason was because "jelly" means gelatin.. here we call gelatin desserts "Jello" because that is the leading brand name. Jelly is kind of like jam. we eat peanut butter and jam.
Or was anyone actually shocked about PB&J?

I guess my question did come out a little insulting!!! Sorry about that.
The reason I asked was because it seemed to be popular opinion that PB&J was gross, and this was with non US users.
And I just had to check just in case out of curiosity.

like a couple of other people have said before, i think it's just that most people in the uk find that combination of foods a bit weird if they've never tried it before, not because they think jelly means gelatine.
it's the sweet / savoury mix thing that gets most people - like cheese and pineapple, or cheese and apple.
