I need help getting my baking ingredients organized!!! Any ideas?!

Question:

I need help getting my baking ingredients organized!!! Any ideas?

I just pulled everything out of my cupboard and now see that I have 2 bags of the same type of flour opened and way too much sugar. Why? Because I can't find anything so I buy more stuff. I am looking for some good options for canisters to organize my flour, sugars, pastas, oatmeal, nuts, raisins, etc. I'm trying to keep things fresher and easy to see.

Answers:

If you use a lot of flour and sugar, look into getting 1-gallon storage bins; they'll hold around 8 pounds of flour and sugar. Get slightly smaller bins for different kinds of flour that you use, such as whole-wheat flour, bread flour, etc. Use smaller rubbermaid or tupperware containers for other ingredients that you use often, like raisins, nuts, coconut, etc. Use baskets to store bagged items like baking chips, or unopened bags of brown sugar, shredded coconut, and marshmallows. To store your spices, look into getting those racks that divide your shelf space in half so you can store commonly used spices on top and not-so-commonly used spiced below, as well as baking powder, cornstarch, and baking soda. You can also label individual shelves so you know where to look for what ingredients.

It will take some investment; Tupperware's the way to go if you don't want to bother trying to do it yourself since their consultants are trained to organize your space with their 'Modular Mates' line. For less money, you can do it yourself with Rubbermaid from Walmart.
