Question about wine gums?!

Question:

Question about wine gums?

This might seem a bit of a silly question but why are wine gums called wine gums? Is it just because they have the names of different wines written on them? I'd just like to know where the idea originated from, theres no wine in them is there!?

Answers:

Sometime ago they used to print the 'story' on the back of their larger packets. They have always been called wine gums although they have never contained wine. However I vaguely remember reading that they originated in a small sweet shop, and the owner was ; In today's terms 'investigated' because of a suspicion that they contained wine. Of course there was no evidence. I assume this occurred because they were sold to children.
